Should I be worried about this purchase?
I just purchased a new set or easton ea90 sl wheels from performance bicycle for 200 dollars. They were 250 and the woman said she'd give me another 20 percent off if i got them. There was also an openpro/ultegra rear wheel for 120 dollars that was also available for an additional 20 percent off. She said they were discounted because the stickers were different and they were the last set of wheels and just trying to get rid of them. Is there something wrong with this wheelset, or does anyone know of performance bicycles pulling any sort of scams. Please let me know if im in the wrong forum, and which section to post in. thanks a lot.

If they are EA90SL wheels, new, and you paid that little, you got a screaming deal. Even if they were used, but in good condition, that's still a hell of a price. Post pics, if you can.
And don't worry, you've posted in the right place.

you bought from a reliable vendor. I dont think you have anything to worry about. performance has a return policy and unless you bought with a strict "NO RETURN" policy you should be fine. Worst case scenario you can dispute the credit card charge.

Sounds like they (or their distributor) somehow mixed up some sets and wound up with a set with one wheel from one year, and the other wheel from another year. As long as you can live with mismatched stickers, it shouldn't be a problem.

I wouldn't worry about it. It's probably a slow time of year for them right now and those wheels may have been sitting on the shelf for a while. I'd say the story makes sense. Performance runs discounts all the time.

At that price I wouldn't worry about it. If I could find a pair of these for $200 I'd buy them too. Although I read a review on their website regarding the deal the have on EA90 wheelsets that claimed they were a 2008 model. They were still $500 so if you got them for $200 that is a steal. I think the ones on the website are slx though so I don't know what the difference is.

Performance is able to make most of these deals because the stuff you're buying is really last year's stuff, but still in new condition. When I was in the market for wheels I was looking at the EA90 SLX's and wondering "Why the X?" After some research there's something different about the hub system... basically last year's technology, re-branded with the X, and sold. Not that they're "bad" - they're just not cutting edge.
Same goes for their bikes. You can get a Fuji SST 1.0 with full Dura-Ace (7900!) for $5K, but if you look at the specs the frame is made of "C-7" carbon, not "D-6" like the current model. What does that mean? I dunno. The performance difference is probably negligible, but it's still last year's stock. That's how they do it.
