Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I thought those kind of pictures came from a satellite. I'm not nearly as smart as I thought I was.

Yeah right 'friend', does you wife know? Funny thing is, I got to looking around a bit more in the area and found my wife's van pulling into a neighbor's driveway. Of course, its her brother's house so its all good.

I saw a parked Google car once on a century ride but I've never seen an active one while I was cycling.

If you saw one slowly driving around in a residential area and followed it, would you be in all the shots?

this is assuming you can keep up. i once chased an ice cream van for a couple of miles and then it got away.

I see them a lot, since I bike at the borderline of the Silicon Valley where Google's main HQ is located.

I saw them one time on the road I bike with, I kept looking to see if they got me, but they didn't. My guess is, just because they're driving the car around, doesn't mean they're actually getting footage.

The car I saw was a dark grey Subaru Impreza, hatchback.

Does Google have a program of updating its streetviews?

Most of this area was done a few years back. Over time some of the roads change but some go for many years with very little change

I'm sure they do. They have done my street at least twice in the last 3 years, and I'm in an area that will see almost no change any time soon (small residential street with all houses at least 70 years old, recently became a historical district prohibiting exterior modifications to the homes).

That's pretty cool.

When they came down my street it was trash day, so you can peek through my trash can if you want.

I did that once on accident.... I had come down from a canyon and stopped to make a phone call. I noticed they were doing something with their cameras, but didn't pay too much attention. Eventually they started packing up and I realized... they'd been filming a news story, and I had stopped RIGHT in the background. Whoops. Yeah, I was that guy.

Not on a bike, but standing in my front yard.

It was spooky- empty street, & turn to find a silent alien-looking rig with a ball on top.

At least you're just cycling and otherwise minding your own business. More than I can say for this woman:

Google Street View flasher should not have been given oral swab: SA law professor - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Yes, I do like to keep abreast of things.
