Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Scott CR1 Idea...

I've been looking at getting a carbon bike with a more relaxed geometry for months to replace my 2005 Trek 1500.

After much debate and test riding, I've come to the conclusion that what I really want is the 2011 Scott CR1 Team, but would like it outfitted with SRAM Force, and would like the Ksyrium Elites that the Elite and Pro versions of the CR1 come with.

So I'm thinking about buying the CR1 Team, and then buying this:

https://www.bicyclebuys.com/groupkits...10128PART/goog

with the wheels that I want.

Any input on this idea? Are there better options listed for the money there for wheels?

Then I'm thinking of either:

1. Selling the 105 groupset and the Aksiums and keeping my Trek for a beater bike or
2. Putting the 105 groupset and the Aksiums on my Trek and not dealing with selling the parts.

I've tried selling other (non bike related) items on Craigslist, and it's such a hassle and I hate dealing with scammers. I've never tried selling on ebay, but would consider it I guess.

That looks like a lot of money in upgrades to spend up front. If you want a better groupset, get a different model. Or, buy a used version and replace the kit.

Unfortunately the CR1 does not come in a Force model. It comes in a Rival model, but I really don't want a white bike. I've tried locating a 2010 Elite model (the Rival model in 2010 was a gloss black frame), but have been unsuccessful.

Try Competitive Cyclist. They have the CR1 and you can build it how you would like.

Good luck.

I called Competitive Cyclist. Unfortunately they only deal with the SL and Pro CR1 frames, and I don't want a matte finish frame. Argh!

Watch eBay .. have seen several 'new' 2010's go through there.

So Competitive Cyclist now has a "Featured Bike" that is a CR1 with Force (although still the matte black Pro frame, which isn't my favorite):

Question, though - I've always heard it was best to go with a carbon fork and seatpost when I was buying my AL bike for the comfort. Why would you build a carbon bike, then, with an AL seatpost? Does it not matter when the frame is carbon?

Considering you can get most of a used red group for $1k, I'd do that if you're going to drop so much cash.

You might as well just buy the frame then...

That's a great price for a Force group. I'd just go with that and swap the 105 parts over the trek or put the parts up on ebay. New 105 stuff sells for top dollah. You could also call up GVH and see if they can give you a better price on the groupset.

They often do build kits and have reallllly good pricing.
