Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Record threadless headset vs Ritchey WCS headset?

I am building up a bike and can get a NOS Campy Record 1 1/8 threadless headset or Ritchey WCS 1 1/8 threadless headset for about the same clearance price. Aesthetically, the Record would make more sense to me because I have mainly old Record and Chorus components that I'll be using for this build. However, is there a big functional difference between the two?

FYI, I don't ride much in bad weather, and I can't afford to "step up" to Chris King or Cane Creek 110 territory.

Thanks!

Record hands down.

Make sure the stack height works for you.

Make sure you are getting the right integrated headset for your frame. There's about four different standards. Campy style frames are not the most common.

The Park tool web site has a good explanation.

Actually this is for a non-integrated style (am I right in calling it an "aheadset" type?), so the Campy one should be fine, right?

You should be okay with the Record headset for a non-integrated frame. Should look like this:

It's an amazon.com image.
