Recd damaged frame - is this rideable?

or not safe to ride?

I doubt that it is damage in transit, as the package was completely intact with no sign of damage, and the paint shows no damage either. Possibly a factory defective frame?

This is the Planet X Nanolight frame. Real bad luck, recd wrong colour as well as a damaged frame. Can't return as shipping from India is hugely expensive.

Have mailed Planet X and hope they come thru.

If it was insured, I'd collect.

TheKillerPenguin 03-08-11 02:24 AM

I'm not seeing the issue. Are you talking about the dimple in the seat tube? You know that's supposed to be there, yea?

Oostal 03-08-11 02:24 AM

Am I missing something? Are you sure it is damaged? I recall having seen frames that purposefully have a depression in the tube (looking like a dent) close to the front derailleur. It looks too symmetrical to be damaged.

In fact, I now had a look at planet-x website and you can see the same dent on a new frame:

That isn't damage. It's design.

The recess on the seat tube is to allow for fr der swing.

deepakvrao 03-08-11 02:28 AM

Yes, I see it on their website. What's it for though guys/

Thanks. Big relief there for me.

deepakvrao 03-08-11 02:48 AM

Thanks Bob.

Sure made a fool of myself.

RacerOne 03-08-11 04:10 AM

Best outcome for a thread ever. Nice looking frame by the way.

NathanC 03-08-11 05:08 AM

They are a 995g frame for AU$950 bucks. Fantastic value.

There was a thread about this regarding the Ridley Compact which had a similar "dent".

;)

What about having the wrong color? You bought a bike in a certain color, you would think you want that color....

Taffmonster 03-08-11 05:54 AM

i really wanna know what that dents for hehe

Besides the fact that it's designed in for the FD, Cf doesn't dent like that. If it were the result of a blow to the frame, there would be visible cracking,

deepakvrao 03-08-11 07:45 PM

^^Yeah thanks. I realized that AFTER it was pointed out. Duh. Need to think before panicking.

This.

That bike is a very similar colour to my Merckx. My Merckx looks nice.

halfspeed 03-08-11 08:26 PM

That's a very pretty frame. On an unrelated note, Deepak have you ever posted ride pictures here? I'd love to see what road cycling in India is like.

I like this idea. A riding in India thread.

mpath 03-08-11 09:24 PM

I'm sure it wasn't the first such email, nor the last.

We see a thread exactly like this every few months, they probably get one a week.

If I made frames, I'd have a sticker on that part that of the frame that says "Design, not dent".
