Rust spots on my road bike crank

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

"Rust" is usually used in reference to steel ..... do you mean a little corrosion on aluminum cranks ?
Oxalic acid works well removing rust from steel, but I've no idea what it would do to aluminum.

Picture ? Aluminum corrosion is usually whitish.

The chainring bolts might be steel.

Might try some automotive Aluminum wheel polish, many types to pic from, and a little will last a long time on a bike. Silver polish may also work, but try just a small inconspicuous spot first, you never know with some chemicals.

What have you tried so far ? Chain lube should stop it from rusting further once you get rid of it.

0000 steel wool (pronounced "four aught") and light oil. Do not rub hard; just let the steel wool do the work.
