Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

so far, I'm at $1900 and some change. that's including all shipping. after the build/tune at LBS, i should be in right at about 2k even. I will post a full parts list and prices once it's all done along with bike weight and etc..

Nice build, I like the Pro Race tires.

Those things are very stable at high speed downhills, only deal I had is puncture after puncture.

I want to see the gold chain on that bike, thumbs up!

Lol I'm psyched on the gold chain too, I haven't really seen many or any gold chains. It'll give it that extra bit of flair.

To address the price, i. Sometimes think that for 2k I could've walked into a shop and gotten a similar ride w/o the hassle of waiting for months to acquire parts and having to put it together but then again I'm not sure components would be the same level. Maybe a step down or so. I figure this way I had more fun looking and waiting for things to arrive and definitely learned A LOT about components and bikes in general and will be able to help others going through the same process. Also found a lot of websites where I can find great deals on parts in the future. Don't think I would've gotten all that if I had just walked into a shop.

Yes, that's what you get with race tires - ie. high TPI count, vs an "everyday" or "training" tire with a low 60 or 120 TPI count.

These came in yesterday:

Last bits needed. Going to have it all put together this weekend. I was going to go with red tires but switched to black at the last minute. For some reason, I don't like the look of red tires. Anyway, that's not important I'm just psyched to get this thing rolling already

No, I just left the Shimano one on there that came with the frame. The Force derailleur fits on it.

I like everything so far and would probably do it all the same if I had the cash, but why a white saddle? Are you keeping the Soul decals?

Im big on the jet black stealth rig set up.

White saddle, white bar tape, and keeping the white Soul decals....also, the tiny bit of white on the crank arms will all work together pretty well Im thinking. Also the red on the soul decals will match the red and white on the easton stem as well as the pedals....lol and a gold chain just to F with everyone/

damn that looks nice, i can't wait to see it all put together. i like the black/white/red color scheme you've got going on too. i'm riding an older Trek that's in need of new paint and i'm probably going with a similar color scheme as well, probably black with white graphics, saddle, handlebar tape, and a few subtle red accents.

and good thinking on the black tires. my bike came with red/black tires and they look horrible.

Its funny because the saddle dictated a big part of the color scheme. I knew I wanted and Arione and found this one at performance on sale for like $89, its the liquigas team edition which is obviously all white i figured shoot, might as well since it comes with matching tape it will keep the color going. i really wanted the white with the red stripe down the middle but that was full price....lol i think $170-something....which didnt justify a red stripe under my butt.

as for the tires, i ordered red but then saw some pics of souls w/ red tires and it come off as overkill really.

the other thing too was the brakes....im glad i went with black since they blend with the frame a little better. i originally wanted to get force calipers which were on sale but only silver....i didnt buy them the day i saw them but went to order the next day only to find they were all out. but they did have a killer deal on these rivals which are all black so i jumped on that and it worked out for the better i think.

did you not buy cables or are you planing to pick them up at the bike shop? so far looks like a nice build. if it was me i would have already put the bike together though.

what chain is that? kmc X10? if so good choice. i think kmc makes the best chains out there. i am using a kmc X10SL right now. of course in gold. i wasnt sure it would look good on my silver framed bike but i think it does. i have gold in a few other small areas (pedal springs, screw on post collar) and i might add some more here and there.

im also running the same tires and really like them. they are light, grip well, and i havent had a flat on them yet either. thats mostly luck more than anything but i do ride on some crappy roads.

here is a pic

build it already! I know for certain I am not the only one who has been waiting for this bike to be built.
How much do you think it will weigh?
You should weigh all the parts while putting it together....everyone loves a weight weenie thread.

im really glad to hear all of that. im psyched to know ive made some good choices.

the chain is a kmc i read good things there as well and it was a good deal over at excel.

cables and housing i will be grabbing at the shop when i take it in as well as tubes.

as for the weight, i did weight the components and it should come in around 14 or 15 lbs if i remember correctly.

Very nice! I've been thinking about either a pedal force carbon build w/105 components. I'm a big fan of "all black" Seen some good frames on ebay for under $350. Can't wait to see your build!

Yeah tell me about it lol. I feel confident in the choices I've made though, I'm expecting a good ride. There were a few times when I wanted to opt for a cheaper option (especially on the wheels) but figured might as well do it right the first time instead of having to upgrade later and spend even more money.
