Fine bike. Easy to fit to most riders. Quality and features are comparable to similarly priced bikes from other major manufacturers.

For some reason I have never ridden a trek bike I was comfortable on. I do have a number of friends that love them though. Make sure you try a few brands and make sure it works for you. If you like the ride, they are nice bikes.

Once you've learned what type of cycling you like to do on a road bike, you can pick a more appropriate bike later.
Good luck with whatever you choose.

That's the bike I started looking at a few weeks ago. Slowly moved to the 2.1, then the 2.3. Bought a 4.5 last night. I'm surprised my wife didn't seem to mind.
It's a good bike - if it fits well and you feel good on it, then buy it.

It was the bike I was originally going to get that I could afford last summer. Decided to wait until this spring and then through an awards program ended up with a 6.2.
The 1.5 is a great bike and will do you right.

The CAAD is a more aggressive ride.
The 1.5 is a more comfortable ride.
In that price range, you'd be looking at a CAAD8.
Not as racy as the CAAD9, but more so than the 1.5.
I'm throwing that out there so that you can notice how they ride when you test either.

Thanks! I did test out a Caad 9, but ended up going with the 1.5 simply based on the price. Got to take my first real ride this evening... loving the bike so far. Completely different animal than a mountain bike

Don't be surprised if you find yourself riding the 1.5 more than your MTB.

I was going to go for a 1.5 but the LBS told me the 2.1 for the price difference was way better. I ended up getting a Trek XO-1 cyclocross bike and putting racing wheels on it
). Doesn't the 1.5 come with the same stock SSR wheelset? those things are HEAVY (they were on my 7000 hybrid). The 2.1 comes with Race wheels (1/2 the weight at least)

The next time you hit a nice run of Singletrack after having put a lot of miles on a road bike,
you're going to be surprised at how much farther you can ride without having to stop.
You're going to be able to climb on that MTB a whole lot better. You'll just feel stronger in every way.

The Trek 1.5 is a great bike to get started on. Even if you do decide to get something else in the future it can always become your rain bike. Be sure to check out brands like Jamis (Ventura) and Felt (F or Z series). I think they offer great bang for the buck.
