I have two Thomson Elite seatposts, but would like to try an alloy setback seatpost (setback of 10-15mm or so).

I can't wrap my mind around the aesthetics of the Thomson setback seatposts.

Could you good folks recommend a two-bolt alloy seatpost with the aforementioned setback?

Reliability is paramount.

27.2mm. Forgot to mention that.

Most posts minus the Thomson are going to have the setback on the clamp area. For decent quality I would look at Ritchey and see what they offer, I use their Comp model but it has about 30mm of offset.

BTW, I love the Thomson setback post have one on my MTB and I think it's a classic I think you will be cheating on Thomson with another post Plus their reliability is unmatched.

I might have to go with the Thomson Elite Setback, even though I can't warm up to that bend. If I can probably find a used one to buy or trade for, then I'll just go for it. My Elites have been so reliable. Just set it and forget about it.

My personal view is you have to get over the aesthetic of the Thomson Elite setback and go with it. It is still a cleaner design than many out there and has the best clamp design. I have two of them and they are fantastic posts. That said, you didn't mention carbon fiber. My favorite post is the FSA Kforce Lite available in two different setbacks both of which are more than the modest 16mm of the Thomson layback. Two bolt clamps are simply the best and carbon offers some road damping. I like the FSA carbon post the best. There are an amazing no. of crappy posts out there including those that can't be changed on high end framesets.

I'm well aware of that, but they are still available NOS. The adjustability is superior. One bolt controls the pitch, one bolt holds the saddle rails. You can choose from the Deus XC, Cadence, Revolution, Next (CF), or Evolve. All of which cost less than a Thomson setback.
