Got all the freewheel boards hung up... had to tear out some stuff that was in the way and then re-organized the shop considerably and still have a bunch of stuff to do.

Just received some new shop goodies so am going to clear a wall to hang them up and reorganize the space a little more.

COG BOARDS! SCORE!

Those take me back to when I first started working in a shop in 1985.

This is one of my workspaces. . in front of my TV lacing up wheels while watching Survivorman.
Although tonight I am watching the Knicks Celtics game while lacing up wheels.

Coach - if you're a Knicks fan, harsh night; if you're a Cs fan, woohoo.

65er - if NPR doesn't call, I'll have you on my radio show.

The universal theme seems to be more stuff than space.

maybe it's like backpacking... if you have space you tend to fill it ;)

Nice and tidy.

A place for every thing and every thing in it's place.

I HATE wasting time looking for something I need so I can do something else.

This was perhaps my number 1 pet peeve when I ran a shop. The sales staff would grab an allen key to adjust the seat for a customer and then leave it on the cash counter. Eventually the service department would come to a screeching halt and I'd see a wrench wandering around looking for all the 5mm allen keys and finding a sales person sipping an iced latte casually leaning next to a horde of them.

Justifiable homicide.

Thanks. I used to make a living with a wrench (not on bikes, though). You learn to organize your workspace or be constantly frustrated. I do have a bunch of junk wheels that need disposal though. They're left over from some retro projects.

Got these from a local shop that has been in business a good long time and just relocated... the Suntour, Maillard, and Regina boards are still pretty well stocked save for the 12 tooth cogs but I have a good number of all these freewheels that could use some lower and wider ranges.

There is one Suntour body on the board... it is French / Metric threaded.

I don't see NPR coming to Canuckistan to interview an aspiring frame builder... but the folks from Momentum have been in touch as they want to do a spot on people who use vintage bicycles as their daily drivers.

Or maybe I will featured on an episode of Hoarders some day.

I have been told by many woman that buying a bigger bag doesn't mean it will have any more space in it than their current bag only that they will fill it up with even more stuff. Based on anecdotal evidence I believe this to be true.

I've been thinking about putting together a little workshop in my garage and I used some of your pictures for reference. I didn't have the funds to go all out but I think I got enough going that it will make things easier to work on my bike. I still need a bike stand though any suggestions?

Looks like a decent enough start.

There are bench mount stands that are a lot less expensive than full floor stands. Some work can even be done using one of the stands shops use to display their bikes. If you are working on a restricted budget it might not be a bad place to start.

Not quite the point of the thread but nevermind.

You'll have to take my word for it, but there is some bike stuff in there.

This summer, after our wedding, I hope to finally get it organized and finished.

I'd love to have space and equipment to do all the wood work and cabinetry in my house. I don't think it likely while I'm still living in Asia.
