When riding by myself, sometimes I purposefully don't look up the road so I don't see the City Limit sign (which, according the The Rules, must always initiate a sprint).

my city limits are up some massive hills

rekmeyata 06-05-13 09:35 PM

I'm old and slow...damn it!

Vicegrip 06-06-13 09:54 AM

At times I try and clip small round pebbles so they will go "ping!" and shoot off in random directions. Bounced one off a bus a while ago.

I shot one at my brother when he was trying to pass me... he had no idea that it was on purpose

I do this too! rarely successful at the right time and right aim but when it is right it's cool. I like to hear pebbles hit guardrails too.

Who says the 41s are full of useless information? I'll be practicing this tonight.

With my weight I risk getting tire cuts. I grimace when it happens.

jdiaz 06-07-13 09:53 PM

I don't know how to change a tire but I carry all the tools and I even took a demo class at Rei. (I pray if I ever get a flat someone will assist)
I will not ride in the rain because I think it will hurt my bike.
I hang out with strong cyclists but I'm not nowhere near their level.

alexaschwanden 06-07-13 10:28 PM

I add weight to my bike to get stronger legs, current folding bike about 45lb with all the accessories and still fun to ride.

1. I don't own any bike clothing Why not??
I'm broke after spending so much on my bike, However this was remedied at REI's Anniversary sale. I need to find a place I can buy these clothes for less than $50 a piece.

2. I am scared sh**less of buying a pair of pedals and shoesWhy??
I don't want to face plant! :bites nails:

8. I used to flip off and honk at bicyclists ALL THE TIME, not because I'm an ass but I always was scared sh**less that I would accidentally hit one someday. Yeah right
It's true. I'm a changed person. Partly since I ride to work now.

9. I hate how CO has a large populace of bikers, but not a road structure that supports them, why have a road with no shoulder and give cars and bikes the same right of way? Then make it illegal to use the sidewalk? Our politicians are mentally deficient at best. At least leave a two foot bike lane where any said biking activities don't scare the poop out of the drivers. Join the club and fify
Yeah I know the feels

10. I hate the appearance of "extras" on my bike, so I haven't quite committed to a water bottle holder
I sucked up and got one after I started getting thirsty during my rides. Took me a while to find a minimalist look .

vikz 06-08-13 02:43 AM

I have a motorcycle and I'm also a roadie..and i love riding both..
I've been pondering since I'm considering getting a motorcycle how many road bikers ride motorcycles and vise versa and what each group thinks of each other... if motorcyclists look down on road bikers or whatever, not that it matters.
Don't worry about it - I make penguins look graceful and I have never fallen over from not unclipping. Even when I unclipped from the wrong side, clipping out is so intuitive that I've manged to avoid biffing it.

Same here - in high school and college I was a horrible ******* on the road. I thank my lucky stars every day I never got into a wreck or killed anyone. Now I try to balance my karma by being exceptionally polite and considerate of the pedestrians on the MUP.

Pretty young women have nothing to worry about. If you flatted you'd be surrounded by gents offering to help.

My confession: I'd probably try to elbow my way to the front of the line.

The High Priests of BF have said it before: There are two kinds of people - those who have fallen due to clipless pedals and those who will. I am a proud member of the first group.

If was gay I would be in the right sport, just simply not carry in flat repair stuff and look stupid when you flat...a lot people around where I live look stupid when they flat, maybe that's why they look stupid hoping for some gay guy to come along. Whatever happen to the word gay meaning just plain happy?

Most of my falls have been due to not paying attention and dismounting on the downhill-side of the bicycle. But always clipped out!

buffalowings 06-08-13 09:41 PM

After 1500-1700 miles riding with at first: boxers plus running shorts, then gradually evolving to compression shorts and running shorts, and today, cycling shorts with chamois.. my ass feels incredible! @_@

crash14me 06-08-13 11:42 PM

I finally fell over at a stoplight, fortunately it was about midnight so nobody saw me. The only thing hurt was my ass and a there is a scuff on the saddle and bar tape.

I consider it karma when they bounce off cars.

when i first got my speedplays i went to a park and fell over on purpose just to get it out of the way. so far that's the only clipless related fall, but i've had a couple close calls.

danmc 06-12-13 09:33 AM

I was searching for this Confessions thread yesterday, because I have a confession...I de-flipped and un-slammed my stem. Yes, the shame of it all...I think I flipped it about a year ago and loved it while it lasted but, alas, my bad back caught up to me and just about every long ride this year my back was extremely tight when done and I've been going into spasms lately so screw the aesthetics, I'd rather be able to ride long and often than to look cool. So back to Fredland for me.
