Anyway, one must work through the Kubler-Ross steps if you buy a recumbent: Denial - I wouldn't be better off riding one of those monsters. Anger - I know plenty of old goats with bad backs and balance problems, and those buttholes still ride their Cervelos. Bargaining - OK, I might get a bent, but only if PCad gets one first. Depression - So I looked at recumbents at the LBS and Holy Crap are they ugly. Acceptance - How many miles does it take to get my bent legs (answer - about 2500)? Fear not. If you're lucky you might go into remission. My mileage this week was 50% bent and 50% real bike. No, I genuinely am curious; I'd like to try one- just because they're different and look like they might be interesting. Took me about 2500 to get my regular-bicycle legs...... [Probably'd take longer with a bent, as it's nothing but hills, here.] Are there shops up there in Loovul that sell 'em? That'd probably be the closest place where I'd be able to test-ride one. Oh, and ya forgot the pipe! [I already have the beard] |
i just spent $80 on jelly beans.

I thought a 10% grade was easy because "it's only 5.7 degrees".
arctan(0.1)=5.710593137 degrees |
I forgot to transfer my frame pump to my road bike and got stranded when I used up both CO2 cartridges.
|
It has been so cold around here that I vented my CO2 cartridges into the atmosphere to hasten global warming.

Exustar Shoes sucks. That was not a confession, more of a FACT. NEVER buy a Exustar Shoe.

I flipped my stem. Then I flipped it back.

I just started biking again as an adult and I love it but I *suck* at it still.
First time out on the new bike, and I was doing great - till I had to go home because I realized I'd somehow cut myself pretty bad on one of my pedals ffs. And I didn't fall or anything, I have no idea how I did that. Then I realized I'd cut the other ankle on the other pedal too, so now I"m the Fred in the kneesocks biking around town until I get less bad at this. Third time out, I dropped my chain spectacularly enough I had to take it back to my LBS. I'm scared of going downhill - like, enough that I have been known to get off the bike and walk it. I'm also working on not riding the brakes when I get scared downhill, I know I'm doing it and I remind myself to stop it but I still have to remind myself. I bought a Road ID because I'm scared that I'll end up in the hospital just from doing something dumb not even involving a car, like hitting a pothole wrong and waking up on the tarmac with broken bones. And yet? Perversely I still love this and I'm already totally scoping around for my second bike. |

I decided to take a detour once on a gravel/mix-of-everything-else backroad near my house once. There is a really steep descent, with loose gravel/broken pavement; and the road is just wide enough for one car and has a creek crossing and a curve at the bottom of the hill. My choice was: Ride down it, and probably wipe out if car came the other way, because I'd be going fast, and it'd be impossible to stop on the loose surface....try and ride my brakes down (Scary- the hill is so steep, that once I'd even get a little momentum, just trying to slow down on the loose surface would be as treacherous as trying to stop)....or walk it down. I walked it! People who have no fear or prudence, are called "mountain bikers". I'm not one. |

Since I've started building a 2-car garage last week in my spare time, I've only been taking 15-mile rides....

I like it when the boyfriend's driving and looking at me with slight contempt, and the girlfriend in the passenger seat looks at me with amusement, as they pass me by at the intersection.

That's interesting. I think I'm at least average in remembering faces. Remembering names, however, is a different matter.

I can't help singing to myself when climbing hills. Not surprisingly, I am not popular on group rides.
I've fallen over so often in clipless pedals that I'm terminally paranoid about them and keep going back to clips and straps. I lie and say I do it to save myself time in the transitions on sprint-length triathlons, but I'm really just a wuss. I'm browsing this forum at 12:30am because I have a dentist appointment at eight in the morning and I'm too nervous to sleep. |
