Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

To the OP, don't do it. Your friends will not understand and it is a PITA to maintain. When you get paid to ride, then consider shaving. Until then, be a regular guy. You already look rediculous in riding gear...with shaved legs you will also look rediculous in street clothes.
False!

So he doesn't shave often enough.

Wow! What he said. It's not like you are going to be an outcast for having hairy legs either.

theres nothing wrong with wanting to belong to a community and embracing its values or aesthetics.

it only becomes wrong when it makes you compromise your own values or aesthetics, otherwise its human nature, and we all do it in countless ways everyday.

body hair hygene is such a non-issue. why anyone would take a stand against leg shaving of all things and feel self-righteous over it is beyond me. the feck do you care if he shaves his legs or not?
Because he asked for our opinion.

Shaving your legs has nothing to do with sexuality, ignorance is something best kept to yourself. The value of shaving or not shaving is up to each person, but there are benefits to doing it whether you race or not. Being a pro or not has nothing to do with anything, it takes more than shaving your legs to "look pro" and if you're not a pro then you won't look the part. Thanks for this nugget of dopiness though, it was worth the chuckle.

The no benefits part. People have already mentioned the massages if you race, the ease of cleaning road rash if you crash (racing or not), and the reduced amount of sun block needed. You have to weight the pros and cons (and there are some of each). I have decided I'd rather not shave, but i have noticed almost twice the normal consumption of sunblock despite riding fewer miles now than when I shaved. Then again, my sunburns when I forget sunblock are less sever since the hair provides some amount of shade.

I do think justkeepspining should have supported the statement instead of just posting an unsupported "false", but then again, the support is already in earlier posts.

everything about your post.

a. nobody who actually has a life cares if he shaves his legs.

b. that people wont understand. most of my friends dont care and most think it makes my legs look really good.

c. its not a pita to shave everyday. it takes 5-10 minutes at most to get a very close nice shave. i do it in the shower before school every day.

edit: urbanknight: pretty much everything he said was wrong so i quoted the whole thing.

I'm not trying to talk anyone out of shaving. I just personally think male limbs look better with hair on them. There are however no health benefits of shaving. In fact the risk of ingrown hairs is definitely a drawback.

Bikes: Road bike is a Carbon Bianchi C2C & Grandis (1980's), Gary Fisher Mt Bike, Trek Tandem & Mongoose SS MTB circa 1992.

Just shave, it feels nice under the cool clean sheets....also be sure to shave safe and the best look is to NOT shave behind the knee so the guy behind sucking your wheel can see the hairy back of your knee.....

OK.

Between having to edit several posts and quotes and the fact that this thread has answered the question several times over with reasonable answers; both pro and con AND the fact that this topic has been done and re-done an infinite amount of times I'm going to break with my normal approach and shut down an active thread.

(THAT is a heck of a sentence btw)
