Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How to do the Double Brake setup?

Thinking of turning a Cross Country Diamondback from a flatbar to a drop bar.

And I think I can use the original brakes on the top, but I'd like to put the dropbar brakes on also.

I've seen the set up before, and tried googling it, but nothing came up. Is there a guide to do this?

You can put interrupter levers (e.g. https://www.treefortbikes.com/product...Top-Brake.html) on the bike with the dropbar levers, but you can't use the original flat bar brake levers in tandem with dropbar levers.

You won't be able to use your existing brake levers. You'll need cross (in-line) levers (https://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-...s-cross-levers) and, ideally, "aero" dropbar brake levers (that route the brake cable underneath the handlebar tape).

So you want to have the brake levers up top as well? You'll need inline levers for that which are different than the levers you currently have:
https://www.biketiresdirect.com/produ...tm_medium=base

Then you'll need a drop bar, new housing, cables and finally some brake levers. How do you shift now? Do you want to have an integrated lever and brake? If so then you might need to replace more than just the levers. I'd bring it by your LBS and get their opinion.

Hmm, thanks for that

Kinda killed my idea but set my mind straight

Still, how do you set them up. I kinda understand the concept of them, yet not the set up.

Going to a LBS today.

I'm thinking of using some bar end shifters with the original cable sleeves that came with them.
