Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Justin, I promise, if you play nice and do what we tell you to do, you'll be happier in the long run. There may not be a single one of us who knows everything, but collectively, you've got one of the best cycling resources on the internet.

How long would it take you to save $500?

That's an orange. The Trek's an apple. Marinate on that for a while.
And, you yourself said you didn't have enough to pay $600. for a Trek.
But you can afford a $600. Schwinn? Either way, you can't afford a 105 bike.

Get a Sora/Tiagra Trek. You're not ready for 105 yet.

i am thinking about selling my fuji and getting this schwinn. the full 105 set for that price is great. how much weight difference is there between my aluminum frame and the steel frame. obviously the steel will be stronger but it looks even lighter than my bike for some reason. the bike looks nice, the zoom feature is awesome you can really see details on the bike. it looks nice. what do you guys think?

just to let you guys know if you already didn't, i have 2 job interviews this week. one tomorrow and one on thursday. i like my fuji, but i want an all white bike like that trek or that blue schwinn with the full 105 set. if i sell my fuji for what i paid, can you guys help me get a bike that will be awesome in your eyes. if i have 450 now and i get a job, i could have 1000 by august sometime probably after paying for food, etc. let me know. im done trolling. even though i was never trolling, i figure if i say im done trolling you will figure i am not messing around anymore and willing to listen to any advice you guys give. if all else fails, i don't get a job, you guys still think im a troll, etc. i will just keep the fuji. it's a nice bike and is great for what i am using it for. i'd just like a new bike that is going to last longer and i have a warranty on. thanks guys.

road rider for sure,
Justin

if you're ready to listen to advice....

Get a job. Ride your dad's bike all summer while you save money. When you get $1000, go treat yourself to a nice brand new bike with a warranty and free tune ups. You'll love the bike so much more after having worked all summer for it. You'll be stress free when something goes wrong, and you'll get a much nicer bike than what you currently have.

If you want a really nice bike, get something used again, but shop better. You could get a full 105 carbon bike for $1,000....

Also, stop shopping by colors and designs. Shop by the bike that has the components you want for the price you want to pay. I'm not saying go get the ugliest bike you can find, but you're pulling up decent bikes just because you like the colors...

don't run them through the dryer.

Why didn't you just pick up brake cable from the mennonites? you're probably only saving 50 cents by ordering it online and wasting a lot of time (and not being safe).

Why does the mention of "mennonites" on a bike thread make me burst out in laughter!
