Identifying Mystery Stem and Advice
First post . . . hope it is a goodie.
Can anybody identify this stem? (see pics)
I bought a great used Basso Zer0.9 bike about a month ago. Having a total blast riding up and down the canyons and benches around Salt Lake City. Big Cottonwood Canyon is tomorrow's goal.
The stem that came with the bike is too short and has too steep of an angle. (90mm 45-degree rise.) So I bought a used 120mm 6-degree carbon fiber stem at a local shop to see if the fit is better for me. So far so good. About 10mm too long.
There are no markings anywhere on the stem. The clamps are aluminum. The carbon-fiber tube is covered by a clear plastic. There are metal ring inserts inside, where the carbon fiber joins the aluminum. Bolts are marked with a "T." The FSA cap is from my old stem.
I can't get any play or cause any creaking noises with this stem. Do you think it is safe enough to ride for a few days? I intend to switch to a 110mm stem eventually, but want to keep riding until I'm sure what to buy. Looking for an inexpensive, bulletproof 110mm-stem with a slight rise. Steerer tube is cut to 35mm.
