Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

pedals for a beater

I'm getting a bikesdirect bike because I will not part with my trek equinox tri bike, and I still plan on doing tri's, but do not want to switch my look pedals over each time I want to ride each of the bikes. I was looking around for a functional pedal at a sweet price, found these,

https://www.pricepoint.com/detail/181...oad--Pedal.htm

anyone ever have used these? any good? cheap piece of crap? not worth the time?

Should be able to find decent used pedals on Ebay too.. might have some scuffs or whatever but as long as it matches your current cleats then who cares.

Bikes: Trek Madone 3.1

those appear to be the same as the nashbar (rebranded, i'm sure) pedals i tried once. got rid of them during the same year for a pair of spd-sl 105 pedals. i got hot spots with them. not sure what the current prices are at all the british retailers, but i would do a little shopping around for something like the Look Keo Easy or the Shimano R540 pedals.

EDIT: Chain Reaction Cycles has the R540 for $36.51. If you're looking for pedals with compatible cleats, these obviously won't work, but if you have more than one pair of shoes, that deal is hard to beat.

Bikes: Surly LHT set up for commuting

I have not used those but I have Wellgo's with other designs. They work, seem to be durable, and are very heavy.

Those look like a good choice for a beater. The cleats appear to be kinda' Lookish.

BTW, glad to hear you decided to keep the Equinox as a TT bike.

Sez they are Look ARC compatible. I believe that means the float (red) version of the classic Look Delta cleat.

In other news, my brother has these pedals and I think they are in fact kind of junky. I believe the spindles are not smooth turning in his -- IF I recall correctly.

If I were you, I'd try the sealed bearing version of these pedals: https://www.pricepoint.com/detail/147...oad-Pedals.htm

I gotta think they are better (and the price is the same).

Now those pedals are Look KEO compatible. I don't know if the OP has KEO or Delta cleats; obviously he needs to pick a compatible pedal.
