Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm a hobby photographer. I also posted in the SS/FG thread so some of these may be a repost

I started the thread in SS/FG and it has been very popular....I wanted to see if roadies liked photography as much. It appears to be the case. Then again, I'm a member in a few other BF sections.
I wish I had as many cameras as I do bicycles!

You never know. I don't live in Seattle but I try to make it to gasworks if I'm in the area at night. So awesome looking.

You guys put me to shame. My camera is too good for me (just like my bike) and I don't shoot much more than vacations and holidays, but here a few snapshots:

Crap. Um, there's no scenery worth looking at here. And you aren't supposed to know about Kerry Park.

By the way, Kerry Park is a great place to stop for a moment on a ride. If you don't live on the hill, you earn the view. If there's a next time you visit Seattle, shoot me a PM in advance and I'll show you a nice bike route around the city.

From Kerry Park:

What looks like Kermit D Frog was an alien, put up there for the opening of the Science Fiction Museum.

Before the fireworks show, but after some amateur shows had put smoke in the air.

Down one of the flights of stairs from the park.

This is a few blocks away, and frankly it's not a very good shot. That cobble is a ***** to ride on, though.

There's some really nice work here. Cool thread.

I used to do a lot of street photography with a Rolleiflex, and a good bit of almost everything else. Alas, those negatives and prints are in boxes, taking up three shipping crates in the basement, none of it digitized.

Here's one I took with a junk P&S yesterday on my ride. I never worked with digital or color, so I'm sure saturating the hell out of it is a faux pas, but it best represents what I felt when I was there.

I'm a photographer as a hobby though I haven't been very inspired lately.

Here's my favorite bike related picture:

And more on my Flickr that I haven't updated in a while. I should get on that...

Landscapes are great to shoot for the following reasons:
they show up on time,
they don't spend half the shoot fiddling with their cellphone,
they don't complain about the temperature,
they don't need to stop to pee,
they don't show up with jealous boyfriends,
they don't ask for all of their photos by the end of the day,
they don't try to haggle your fee,
they don't tell you that they are a size 2 and show up weighing 173 pounds,
let me know when I can stop....
yeah, landscapes aren't so bad afterall huh?
