Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Fine, I'll play. I used to care about photography a lot more but I've gotten lazy in addition to selling most of my gear. Now I only have a 40D and a smattering of manual focus lenses. Almost didn't post but what the hell...

I don't regard myself as a photographer (too many of those running around with their DSLR cameras already), but I do enjoy taking pictures.

Feeling nostalgic for my DC pics as the movers take my stuff away...

You think bike stuff gets expensive... Here's some schwag from before my switch to Nikon.

And random, but one of my favorite shots ever of Max, my lab/pit mix.

I've always noticed a correlation between cycling and other hobbies. Primarily photography and beer. Personally, I just (re-)finished art school with a degree in photography.

Website is here if you're interested. It is, though, in the midst of a redesign and still a bit sloppy.

I used to call myself a hobby photographer, but now I call myself a hobby cyclists.

The two, for me, are sadly mutually exclusive. I love photography, and I got quite proficient and amassed a collection of film-cameras, developers and films. When I commuted by bus, I could carry my equipment everywhere - all my friends knew I'd show up with at least one camera strap across my shoulder. I'd go to work with my heavy Mamiya C330 and go shoot after the shift, or take a rangefinder with me to the bar.

But a C330 is a pain to carry on a bike, and the vibration and jolts knocked my rangefinder out of alignment. Last time I carried my SLR, an east-German Praktica, on a bike, I was assaulted by a road-raging driver who knocked me off the bike and then beat me up, so the mental link isn't quite as lovely.

And so, I haven't shot a frame in at least two months. Barely two rolls of film since I ditched the bus-system at the start of March.

I really, really want the one on the left. I rented one once for a weekend I wanted it ever since. I just want to get a FF body before I get one.

Yup. It was quite the fine piece of glass. For all its bad reputation, my copy of the 50L was quite possibly my favorite lens ever. Still waiting for a comparable 50 from Nikon. In the mean time, the Sigma 50/1.4 is a pretty nice substitute.

I used to shoot more when I had darkroom access. Either way, here's a few.
