Hey Folks... I have a question for you BMC riders out there. I "hear" that BMC sizing runs larger than normal, can anyone confirm? A local shop is selling a 2009 61cm SLT01 Road Machine and taking measurements and looking at the geometry specs it is MUCH larger than my Specialized Tarmac (with the exception of the tube tube which is ACTUALLY only 0.6cm shorter on the BMC). I'm ready to pull the trigger as I just couldn't get the Tarmac to fit properly. Only other bikes I'm considering is 63cm Cannondale Supersix and a 64cm Trek Madone but the BMC is just DAMN sexy and not a lot of them out there and I hear they are super stiff for a clydesdale like myself. Any input would be appreciated. Cheers

They do run big. I went from being fitted to 54 Cannondale's and a 54 Felt (too large for me) to a 49 SLT01 with a longish stem. The BMC Bike fit really well. I could have gone with either a 49 or a 51 and decided on the smaller frame. 5' 8" with long legs and a short torso, so I am not in the range you are looking at. Rollin was kind enough to mail me a copy of the 2007 catalog. PM me with your email address and I will send you a copy so you can see what the geometry looks like.

The geometries/dimensions for the bikes in question are available on the respective websites so direct quantitative comparison can be made. Currently I have three road bikes by different mfgrs, 54, 55 BMC, 56. The BMC is closer to the 56 than the 54. Thought the frame geometries are different by a cm or 2 here or there, they all can be made to fit identically through proper choice of components and adjustment. You say you can't get the Tarmac to fit properly. What exactly about it can't be made to fit? Saddle position wrt the crank? Bars wrt the saddle?

also a clyde with a 09 SLT01 I feel it is plenty stiff I rode a 58 cm fuji before and went with a 55 cm BMC 6'0" 205 lbs

Also it is quite sturdy, while not a controlled study I have wrecked twice on it with no ill effects to the frame.

Sexy bike Heckler (that is almost the exact same bike with same components LBS is selling, less the wheels). I did not try it yet as I'm recovering from a badly sprained ankle and still limping pretty good. The thing with the Tarmac was that the seat tube was only 58.9cm from c-t and I didn't have enough seatpost to get the extension quite right (even tried a 400mm seat post). We did get it to fit close with a Thompson 410mm seat post but it was so high up there and it felt like riding a tri bike. The reach was good with a 100mm stem and I had to get 46cm bars. Maybe I'll do down and see if they will put it on a trainer for me although going from a 58.9 seat tupe to a 62.3cm will be more than enough for my current problem and going with a longer stem to make up the difference in the top tube whould be no problem. The head lenght is similar as well. Thanks for the input guys.
