The head on my 3 yr. old Wrench Force floor pump seems to be dying a slow death. At first it started leaking air slightly at the head when the locking mechanism was in the open position when pressed on the presta valve. When closed everything was fine. But now it's leaking alot when in the open position and still leaking slightly when in the closed position. I was told I could just cut the tubing and clamp on a new Silca head. After finding the silca head online I see it does not appear to have any type of locking mechanism. So what keeps this head locked on to the presta valve while pumping air? All my pumps I've had (floor pump, co2 inflator, mini pumps) have always had a locking lever to keep it secured. Thanks.

When the head on one of my pumps died, my NBS sold me a Silca head. The head uses a cork gasket for a snug fit to a presta valve. Just needed a hose clamp to put it on. Most good NBS stock replacement gaskets that are very cheap.
The cork gasket works well to about 120 PSI. I had a tire rated to 160 PSI, and I was curious to see what the tire would feel like at 160 PSI. The Silca had would come off the valve at about 140 PSI or so.
These days, I never pump any tire about 120 PSI, and the Silca head works fine.

You mean to tell me that there are other than Silca heads available now?! My, technology really has advanced!
(Seriously, for any tire pressure you should be riding, a Silca head will be just fine.)
