Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I really like Gatorade powder with an added CamelBak tablet (the bubbly fizzy things).

There's a correct application to something that has a lot of sugar in it (and is 14g/8oz really even that much sugar as far as beverages go? I mean, I know it's sucrose syrup, but still, I'm sure you do worse.) A lot of cyclists ride long and hard enough that a bottle of gatorade is more beneficial than just drinking water.

On the other hand, just as you suggested, if you're wandering into a 7-11 looking for a beverage and you're sedentary/not using those carbs, gatorade's really unnecessary
I agree. I dont think the added sugar and other changes are purely about marketing. Salts and sugar is kind of what you need when its hot and you are working hard and sweating a lot. I drink gatorade on hard rides in the heat, but skip the gels and other things people use for sugar and energy.

I totally agree that some guy walking off the street does not need to drink gatorade - then again, he probably shouldnt drink most thinks for sale in the convenience store.
