Renting a Tri/Tt bike

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Renting a Tri/Tt bike

I often rent bikes when I go away. I will be in FLA and I was thinking this might be a great time to try a tri/Tt bike. I know where I can rent one.

I'm wondering if this is a bit crazy. I have the fit on my personal bike dialed in, and can get pretty close to it on a rental bike, but that's a road bike. Will it take too much effort to get comfortable on a tri/TT bike, this being my first time on one? I'm not looking for the highest wattage and efficiency, just comfort.

Thanks.

It might be kind of fun but could also end up being frustrating. The fit system is entirely different and it takes some time to get used to a TT bike. It took me several weeks to build up the muscles on the back of my neck to be comfortable on my TT bike for any length of time. Turn your head up about 45 degrees towards the sky in your road bike position and hold it there for awhile and you will get an idea if what I mean.

I just tried doing this here sitting in my office and it feels like I just hyper-extended my Trapezius muscle. Now, I'm having second thoughts about buying a TT bike.

Isn't that why all the Tri guys have bottles and straws up front. Just lean your chin on the straw to give your neck a rest? .... maybe not...
