Merckx EMX-5..anyone out there actually have one?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Merckx EMX-5..anyone out there actually have one?

https://www.eddymerckx.be/EMX-5

Such a mean looking machine! I really love the geometry of this bike. I'm sooo sick of looking at carbon fiber bikes w/ sloping top tubes. This is one of the only modern bikes out there that has a truly horizontal/traditional top tube. Do any dealers here in the US actually stock these Merckx bikes? Anyone out there own one or even get a chance to ride one?

Check with www.wrenchscience.com, they will most likely have a few in stock.

I saw one at our local crit on July 4th near Sacramento. The guy also had a hatchback with Quickstep colors and logos all over it, and something to the effect of "Belgian concept racing" scrolled on the side panels. They're even prettier in person.

They are a sweet looking bike. The shop I got my Pinarello at also stocked Merckx. The geo just didn't fit me as well.

I like most modern stuff (I'm 24 and have only been cycling for 2 years), but I'm just tired of looking at all these high-end bikes that look like bmx bikes w/ big wheels. Part of the reason I sold my 2011 Cervelo R3 was because I was just so tired of looking at it. My Look 595 has a slightly sloping TT, but if I had it my way it would have a perfectly horizontal TT. Bikes w/ classic geometry just look better. Period. I don't care what's popular these days. Look at that EMX-5 and tell me the geometry doesn't just scream "fast!"

I think Colnago has a horizontal top tube version of their pro tour bike.

I think they look better too.

Yep, their high-end bikes like the EPQ (aka EPS or Extreme Power) and also their C59 Italia come in both sloping and horizontal geometries. They even do full custom geometries as well.

If you have long arms, and long trunk - like I do, you really appreciate a sloping top tube.

A bike that fits me, and has a straight top tube and has negative standover clearance as in the top tube is pushing the boys up.

I for one love the sloping top tubes

Haha...I guess if I had that issue I'd want a sloping TT too!
