I got a full 10s veloce gruppo...got it for 400$ (can) less than centaur...since I don't race I didn't see the need to spend more....And veloce is a very reliable gruppo...on par with 105...the two best gruppo to own if you don't race in my opinion. Chose veloce over 105 mainly for the hoods...and my bike is a marinoni!! so italian sounds better on it :)

I also own a bike with sora...it a decent gruppo for the price you pay...but I got some nasty problems with my front derailleur....the rear one works just fine....but I'm not a fan of shimano hood's

Too bad SRAM didn't make shifters.

Chucklehead 01-08-05 08:51 PM

Front DR could be faster, not sure if it's worth the time to upgrade though.

03FinestAL 01-08-05 11:17 PM

Ultegra STI shifters, brakes, cassette, and rear derailleur. 105 triple crank and BB. Dura Ace front derailleur.

When is the paint job on the Tete de course going to be done?

That's cruel........ Have you no heart????

55/Rad 01-09-05 12:17 AM

Gawd, I don't know.

All I need is the damn Ultegra cassette and I can at least finish the upgrade on the Trek. The Tete is still waiting for paint and the crank.

It's out of my hands. All I can do is wait and sulk.

I did have fun tonight helping forum member Mr. Ballistic upgrade his bike to Ultegra 10. Very sweet.

Are you commenting on the fact that I'm having the Tete painted or on 53-11's cruel question as to whether if had actually been completed after 7 months at the paint shop?

Definitely the cruel question.......

I haven't been on the board long, but I knew that you have been waiting some time for the paint job to be completed.

I'll put a ribbon on my handlebars in hopes that your Tete returns home soon. :)

Thank you. You are familiar with Vanilla Bikes here in Portland? www.vanillabicycles.com

The guy who paints all the top end Vanilla bikes is the guy who is painting my frame. He is considered (arguably) by many to be the best on the west coast, maybe the entire country. He is absolutely the most anal retentive detail-freak-perfectionist I have ever met and it shows in his work. I challenged him to come up with something that he'd put on the front page of his website, (if he had one) something he would show to his friends and say "I did it". Whatever he wanted as long as it wasn't "over the top" and accented the frame materials - carbon and ti. That was my mistake for it has caused him to go back and forth on his designs and ideas.

I knew it would be awhile, so I wait.

When are we gonna get together?

My days off this week will be We-Th-Fr-Sa. I work tomorrow.

So, any of those days would be good. Just must keep in mind that I am still a relative n00b (after being off a bike for 12 years-been back on for only a few months), am not a very good climber, and you must promise not to grind me into the asphalt......... :D

Naw, I'm not that way. I like to push a bit but I very much enjoy riding with other people. We'll work something out on a future Saturday. I'll get fellow members Mr. Ballistic and Barleyrocket and we'll make a morning of it. Stay tuned....

Ultegra Dura ace mix on trek, mostly ultegra though, DA FD, brakes, Ultegra everything else except the crankset.

SDS 01-09-05 05:59 AM

Ultegra on the single bike, with appropriate changes:

SRAM chain to get away from the unreliable Shimano chains. I have seen a lot of people get in trouble with the replacement pins. Rather use disassembling link of one kind or another.

Square taper Phil Wood BB. Lifetime part, perhaps.

T.A. 185mm 110/74mm crank. Now that there are lots of "compact" (ahem) cranks again, quality chainrings at reasonable prices will be easy to get. Glad the rest of the market is catching up. I would have gotten 130/74 in the first place if they made it that way. Now they do make it that way with an interchangeable spider, but then they did not.

Nashbar zero-setback double-bolt microadjusting seatpost. Price is right. Looks like Thomson, costs one-fifth to one-tenth as much.

Profile stem and Airstrykes.

Unbreakable (can't break a spoke if you don't have any) Aerospokes for general riding, Shimano 540s for climbing. Ultegra cassettes, nearly always 11-21, 11-27 or 12-27 for serious climbing.

Might try XTR long-cage RD next time. Shifts really well on the tandem.

TTT bars, 520 pedals, Selle Italia Turbo saddle.

PhatRoadie 01-09-05 11:46 AM

9 spd DA Deraillurs, Shifters, Brake Calipers and Hubs
FSA Compact Carbon Cranks

So I voted DA. Love the stuff.

Trogon 01-09-05 01:53 PM

Since I can only vote once, the real total is 3 Record bikes, 3 Dura Ace bikes, 8 Chorus bikes and one single speed with Record brake levers, Chorus brakes and Dura Ace wheels.

53-11 alltheway 01-09-05 01:56 PM

Amazing how close DA and Record are........despite being more RARE (harder to find) the Record is almost as close.

Trogon 01-09-05 02:23 PM

I don't think they're close at all - in my book, Record is in a different league altogether. Dura Ace is nice, but in retrospect I wouldn't have built the DA bikes I did, had I known any better.

And I don't understand the "hard to find" comment - I could have a full Record group on my doorstep on Tuesday if I ordered it right now.
