record -- just put it on the new bike, its amazing, straight out of the box with minimal adjustment.
but, it won't make you faster -- I got dropped like a bad habit today. ;) |
Voted "other"
My fixed gear's drivetrain is made up of a Dura Ace cog on a White Industries hub, Sugino crank, Salsa chainring, SRAM chain, and Shimano cartridge BB. One of these days I'll build a bike with Campy Record...pista. :D |
One thing I wish, is tha the lower end Campy stuff was cheaper and more competitive with the lower end Shimano.
For example, three steps down from the top, is Centaur, and 105. But, 105 is about half the price for the group. I would love to use a Centaur group on a new bike I am working on, but 105 it will be. I think 105 is even cheaper than Veloce components. I could be wrong though. |
Groups on my various road bikes, in no particular order:
Super Record Including Aluminum Freewheel Nuovo Record Sachs "Ergo" Record Carbon 9-speed w/Topline crankset Shimano "10" Pitch (Oops! Track bike - Sorry) |

Sora  Unfortunately, I have the Sora shifters (awful, awkward to reach thumb shifters), Sora front derailleur (highly imprecise), Tiagra rear derailleur (actually, so far so good). I also have a triple, which I hate and never use the smallest ring on, the front derailleur which I have personally adjusted many, many times and had other, more experienced people try to adjust it with no avail.
These came stock with my Specialized Allez, but I haven't had the funding with which to replace them. I'm looking to upgrade it to 105 parts this spring/summer, but until then I'm stuck with the Soras. Random question that popped into my mind: has anyone had any luck racing with Sora components? I want to race this season and I don't think I would feel comfortable racing with these components and was just wondering if anyone else has had any experience racing with them? |
gday, i have full sora, and i couldnt imagine trying to race with it. when i first bought my bike i was blown away. shifts were smooth when properly adjusted and i quickly learnt to deal with to illogical thumb shifters... however, after a few months of riding with my strength and pace is building the faults are showing through. last night powering up a hill at 35km+ i went to down shift as i slowed. instead of dropping one as intented i dropped 3 and came close to losing the chain. sora is great for casual commuting but anything more serious it just cant hold up. i have ridden 105 and ultegra and cant wait until i have the money for something better.
