Craigslist "CEASE AND DESIST" with National SiteMash (Dumb)

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Craigslist "CEASE AND DESIST" with National SiteMash (Dumb)

I have used and suggested this site to others since it came out. It gave the ability to do national searches with Craigslist rather than suffering through hundreds of local searches.

I would think Craigslist would welcome this? There must be some behind the scenes money at stake with hits, selling info, mailing list??? .... Who knows what?

Aug 26, 2011 20:26:27 : Craigslist sends C&D to jaxed.com
By: jaXed
The jaXed Mash has been presented with a "CEASE AND DESIST UNLAWFUL MISUSE OF CRAIGSLIST" from attorneys representing Craigslist. In the C&D, The jaXed Mash was cited for violating the Craigslist Terms of Use. Cragislist has demanded that The jaXed Mash remove all Craigslist listing titles, and cease to index Craigslist listings in the future.

At this time, we are removing all Craigslist links from The jaXed Mash.

We know most of you come here specifically to search for stuff nationwide in the US and Canada. It is unfortunate that we will not be able to offer Craigslist as a source of data any longer.

The next few days and weeks we will be looking at merging new sources of data into The jaXed Mash. It makes sense to find smaller niche sites and forums and work with those sites to bring their listings to The jaXed Mash. If you know of any sites that you would like The jaXed Mash to index, drop us a line via Email, Facebook or Twitter (@jaxed).

What used to be a great link for cycling searches on Craigslist.

Well here's the follow up. I guess it explains the purist "local" philosophy of Craigslist. If that's all it is, than I'll feel a little better about it, but I'm skeptical because the same transaction/agreements can be done only with 100 times the effort to do it with individual local searches. I still think it's about money.

Aug 31, 2011 01:34:13 : More on Craigslist
By: jaXed
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT! The sheer volume of positive email and comments we have received after posting about the "CEASE AND DESIST UNLAWFUL MISUSE OF CRAIGSLIST" has been phenomenal. We have read each and every comment, email, Facebook, and tweet sent our way.

The whole Craigslist thing is a downer, we know. When it comes down to it, the "Craigslist way" is not compatible with our site. It's not compatible with the internet, really. If you look on just about every Craigslist listing page, and elsewhere on Craigslist, you see the following words:
DEAL LOCALLY WITH FOLKS YOU CAN MEET IN PERSON - follow this one rule and avoid 99% of scam attempts on craigslist.
Craigslist is about being local. Craigslist wants nothing to do with any sort of nationwide search and they don't want anybody else doing it for them. We really don't think this has anything to do with eBay owning part of Craigslist. It has to do with the idea of the "Craigslist way" of dealing locally.

In our opinion, dealing locally is great for buying baby clothes and finding a date for Friday night, but it's not that great for selling a classic car, a yacht, or a vintage bicycle -- items that might take a special kind of buyer that doesn't exist locally.

Basically, long story short, we are as frustrated as you are! All we can do at this point is continue to build on this site and add more sources - perhaps even obscure sources - so that you can find what you are looking for. And we will.

Bikes: everywhere

Sundance, you can still use crazedlist.org and a couple of other similar setups mentioned in the other thread about this. I've been using crazedlist.org for a while. Since long before I'd even heard of Jaxed. It requires the use of Firefox and a plugin installation and a little fiddling with FF settings, but after that it's easy to use.

Maybe there was only one other one mentioned in the thread. Never tried it, though:
searchtempest.com

And the other suggestion was simply searching google for site:craigslist.org (your search term) You don't get as fine a control as you dowith Jaxed or Crazedlist, but...

I use: https://www.searchtempest.com/

It is pretty sweet.

Thanks for the alternatives, I was unaware. Likewise, I was unaware of an already existing thread about this. I just gotta kick in the head when I went to the site this morning. For me a national search on Craigslist is even more useful because for fun I restore BIG bikes, specifically 27" frame Schwinns, and they are getting much harder to find. I'm taking one over to the powder coaters next week in fact, and it was a JaXed website find.

I use Safari but downloading Firefox is easy enough and I will check out the sites mentioned above.

You can always count on this kind of stupid comment. I suggest you follow the bouncing ball and read the post right above yours. But I'll explain it to your infantile little mind anyway. Craigslist is often used to search and acquire... wait for it... road bikes and components.

Go back to playing with your toys and leave the adults alone.

Exactly. I don't know if you call that contrast or hypocrisy? I guess they were supporting "local" prostitution, so it's consistent.

I buy most of my bike stuff long distance with craigslist searches. If you use your head, you won't get ripped of. I have over 20 transactions and never got ripped off. My Carbon Synapse 5(105) has gone from an 18lb bike to 15.5 and better performance for under $600 out of pocket with searchtempest.com and allofcraigslist.com

Some purchases are Sram Red derailluers, Red Cassette, Red Cranks, Force shifters, Topolino wheels, Speedplay X-1 Titanium, GP4000, Bontrager XXX bars,
