Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What Shoe Covers?

It feels like winter, and I need a pair of shoe covers for Kansas-like winter weather..budget is no more than $50. Brand does not matter to me, however look does. What are the best materials for warmth compared to what you have to pay? I've seen one as far up as $200, which I think is just a ridiculous price when its made out of the same material's anyways. What are you thoughts?

I'm thinking about getting the Sidi Thermocovers. They're about $50 from PBK with the 10% discount. I'm also planning to get the Sidi Hyrdo GX insulated shoes. I hate cold feet, but love to ride in the winter, so this year I'm throwing some resources at the problem.

Good solid neoprene of some sort.

I finally bought Northwave winter shoes last year and they're great for the colder days.

do NOT get the pearl izumi softshell barrier (i think that's what they're called) covers. they are right around that $50 mark. all they do is cover your shoes, but besides that they don't do anything. no warmth, no wind barrier, not water proof, nothing. things are thick as heck too.

Gator neoprene covers. Hard to go wrong with black. Keeps me toasty down to 25°F.

I like the choices MEC has to offer, especially the MEC Cycling Shoe Covers for $29.

I've tried several. Sugoi is good but Performance neopryne on sale now for $29 can't be beat when it's really cold. My feet never have felt cold in them even at 20 degrees.

I've been happy with these. After one season the velcro is starting to curl up but they are still functional.
