Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I certainly feel like I've progressed quite a lot this year.
At the start of the year I was still on an aluminum hybrid casually riding along ... I didn't even have specific cycling clothing then and I thought I was fine without ...
Then ... the bug bit me ...
... now I've done nearly 1000k and 3 TT races on my carbon TT bike in just a few months.

I don't care much about the number of miles I do ... I care much more about the intensity level

In my first full year of cycling ever (46 yrs. old) I was looking forward to 2011. Came into the year with an undersized Trek 7.2 FX and a 1988 Fuji roadbike that hadn't been ridden in 22 years. I got the Fuji cleaned up and it is a blast. In March I got a entry level CX bike from Performance (after selling the Trek) that I'm very happy with. Some upgrades for the CX bike are planned.

1. Are you progressing toward meeting your cycling goals for the year?

My goal for the year of 2500 miles is currently under 400 miles away. I should have it tackled by Thanksgiving. I may have a shot at 2750 if the northeastern US weather complies in December.

. What kind of distance have you managed for the year so far?

Currently at 2109.

. How many kilometres or miles did you cycle in September?

Right at 297 miles (478 km) for September. Thought I'd hit 300 tonight but couldn't get out of work on time.

Mine pale in comparison to many of you but.. someday Posts like these are pretty much my carrot to find more time to ride.

1. Are you progressing toward meeting your cycling goals for the year?
- Started in the beginning of April (after some 15+ years off) with the goal of riding a few days a week, early in the morning before everybody got up (0430-0515) just for some exercise and fun. I figured I was dreaming big if I could get 1,000 miles in for the year. I started really slow 3-5 miles a ride 3-4 days a week in the dark. Now Im doing about 13-16 miles a day in the limited time I have available. Started picking it up the last few months

2. What kind of distance have you managed for the year so far?
-112 trips for 938 miles (lots of small ones to start)

3. How many kilometers or miles did you cycle in September?
-228 aiming for 275 miles

Im happy with my progress over the last two months and have signed up for a 1/2 Century next month and look forward to bigger/longer and better things Kids getting a little older so available time on weekends is increasing

1. Goal is 7200 miles and I am at 4800. I think it's still attainable because I ride most of my miles in spring and fall when the weather is good here.

2. Answered above 4800 miles.

3. 746 miles so far in September.

1. Are you progressing toward meeting your cycling goals for the year?

My goals were wrecked by an unfortunate collision with a red light runner on July 26, which caused me to miss the entire month of August and some of September. I'm re-evaluating things right now, deciding what else to do in what's left of the year.

2. What kind of distance have you managed for the year so far?

No idea. My computer got wrecked by riding through a typhoon in Japan last year, and I simply can't be bothered replacing an unreliable wireless computer with another unreliable wireless computer.

3. How many kilometres or miles did you cycle in September?

See the answer to question 2, above. Either way, it wouldn't have been nearly as much as I would have normally expected for fairly obvious reasons. I'll just be content if I can pull off a century in the next couple of weeks.

The only real goal I set was to do 3,000 miles. I'm at 2,336 for the year, so I expect to hit it. September hasn't been a good month: it rained (hard) for a week straight, and I had to travel on business twice. So I'm only at 224 miles for the month - will probably finish at about 300. I did 410 in August, and expect to do roughly 400 in October.

Most of my miles are commuting. Have been full-time commuting since January. At between 44 and 50 miles round trip, the miles add up quickly.

What kind of distance have you managed for the year so far? 11,356 miles so far this year

How many kilometres or miles did you cycle in September? 1,155 miles so far this month.

Bikes: See my sig...

Health issues have slowed me down and have not ridden nearly as much this year as I was able to last year which was the best since I fragged the back but still fell short of what I was doing before in regard to distance and intensity.

Have passed the 5000km mark but that is only an average of 12 miles a day and have not ridden a century this year although I have come pretty close and done a fair number of metrics, albeit at a reduced pace.

Things have picked up a little and should hit 800 km for this month (480 miles) although I doubt I will get in another 5000 km before the end of the year...

1. Are you progressing toward meeting your cycling goals for the year?

My goal was to ride less this year and spend more time doing other activities with my wife and kids (hiking, skiing, etc...). So far, I've only reduced my biking by about 10%, but I have gone on more hikes, etc...

2. What kind of distance have you managed for the year so far?

As of today, 12178km (7567 miles).

3. How many kilometres or miles did you cycle in September?

1395 km month to date (867 miles). I'll probably hit 1500 km by Friday.

1. Are you progressing toward meeting your cycling goals for the year?
It's been a good year for me, my second full year riding. I decided to try racing and have progressed from CAT5 (off the back) to CAT4 (Pack fodder). My original training and power goals went out the window when I realized that the best thing I could do to improve as a racer was to race and do fast group rides as much as possible. My FTP will probably be flat or down from early in the year, but I'm a much stronger rider overall. This winter will be back to more structured training.

2. What kind of distance have you managed for the year so far?
I'm right around 5k miles. A little less than last year at this point, but lots of racing miles.

3. How many kilometres or miles did you cycle in September?[/B]
Not enough, I'm ready for cooler weather. I think we've had about 85 days over 100 this year (a record), it's been a brutal summer.

With the traffic we have here, he may be getting there faster than most of cars. Our traffic here is officially the worst in the nation (tied with Chicago) https://news.blogs.cnn.com/2011/01/20...worst-traffic/

1. Are you progressing toward meeting your cycling goals for the year?

Already beaten all my goals.

Started off the year with a goal of doing one 50 mile ride by the end of October. Blew that goal away in the beginning of July.

Altered my goal after that to do one 100 mile ride by the end of October. Blew that one away on September 10th.

2. What kind of distance have you managed for the year so far?

Started the year with a goal of 1,250 miles to match my previous best year (2005). I'm at 1,933 miles as of this moment, and will be at 1,952 miles after I bike home from work. (3141km)

3. How many kilometres or miles did you cycle in September?

463 miles as of now, will be 482 miles after tonights commute home (777km).

Hoping to hit 500 miles (804km, my 2nd 500 mile month ever), so I have another 18 to do tomorrow, but it's going to rain all day so who knows what's going to happen.

I'm at 3100 and I was shooting for 4000, so I guess I am pretty much on schedule. I was hoping to beat my goal but weather has just been a bear this year.

a somewhat unexpected amount of time taken up with both of my son's football teams... 5 nights per week, I haven't been on my bike for 6-7 weeks... so no, my goals will not be met, nor even approached this year... hopefully I'll get an earlier start next spring, maybe I can convince wifey i need a trainer for xmas, we'll see... ugh
