Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

brooks heaven

installed brooks saddles on my and my kids road bikes late last summer. instant gratification! put another road bike in the basement on the trainer. tried to get by with the saddle that comes on the trek 5200. Gave up last night and stole the kid's saddle. died and went to heaven. With the trek saddle I had to get stand every 10 to 15 minutes. On the brooks I had to remind myself to stand!!!!!!!

To jump in... I have the B17 Narrow on my Lemond Tourmalet. I'm not very big (5' 6") and the Narrow fits me fine, but I would guess that others may like the standard B17 better. Mine is black. I hear that the honey will darken over time, but I'm so positive - just something to keep in mind and check out if it matters. *Very* comfortable saddle! If you haven't seen one in person, it's a little shocking at first - thick, hard leather. I would say that it was immediately comfortable, and over time it has become more so. It is a heavy saddle, so if you care about the extra grams, watch out.

The Narrow is designed for a lower, more racing style position. The Standard is designed to be more upright. I thought this was all b.s. until I tried a Standard on my road bike and hated it. Then tried a Swift (same as the Narrow, but with ti rails) and it was heaven. Then I put the Standard on my hybrid and it was heaven as well.

Bikerski,

Did the exact same thing last year. The LBS looks at me like I'm crazy, mixing a CF 5200 with a heavy B17 Narrow. I tell them that its all about the comfort. My opinion, best way to go.

Going to order the green with copper for my Bianchi Reparto Corso......

I put a honey B17 on my Bianchi Veloce late last summer and it's the most comfortable saddle I've ever ridden. I couldn't go 30 minutes on my old saddle - Selle Italia - without discomfort. My last ride on the B17 was 2 1/2 hours and I could have gone another couple hours easy. It looks kind of funny on the bike but I don't care. I'd rather be comfortable and concentrate on the ride rather than an uncomfortable area of my anatomy.
