Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Carbon "asian" Onda fork destruction test

I have an extra carbon "asian" onda fork lying around, no problem with it, just an extra. I would happily record a video destruction test. Any suggestions?

Put it on your bike and ride it until it breaks. Then report the mileage.

if you have a way to put it in some sort of vice...secure the bottom like it would be on a wheelset. Create a platform on the top and slowly start adding stacks of weights (or anything you can for a true weight measurement) and see how much weight you can pile on before it snaps?

Get a mean dog to bark at it, and see whether it dies of fright.

Support it by the steerer tube, and add weight till it breaks. So its like a normal use strength test (like crashing into an object). Or add weight on top of the steerer tube till it breaks. It will have to be alot of weight either way though. I recon its pretty strong.

Wouldn't you have to simulate some kind of cycling related load?

You can stack weights on the steerer tube...but that won't account for the headtube, spacers, or stem.

Yes, but how wet is water? These are important questions.

If you can support the forks then yeah...slide some 45lb weights from your gym on that bad boy till it snaps. You could then take that weight amount and convert that into the force of impact hitting a stationary object (curb) at a specific speed.

or..........

You could just jump on it.

Hell yeah!
"F" that fork up, record it and post a video of it!

Whoop That Trick! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jq3bFkaE2QM

I think that hitting it with a 16oz hammer is approved by Carbon Aficionados here.

Forget simulation!
Mount it on to a beater bike then roll the bike into a tree or something!

(but then "someone" will just complain that it's not scientific enough)

I got it!
Get 2 friends and find a steel and aluminum fork.
Draw straws to decide who gets which

Bike joust using the fork as whatever those long jousting sticks are called until only one fork remains intact.
Declare winner!

That's been proven and demonstrated daily . . . maybe hourly.
