Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How many times should you repeat the buying process. And stay married.
Is it a "do it until you are sure you have it right" process?

Bikes: Some bikes. Hell, they're all the same, ain't they?

It's "keep buying the same color bike so she won't notice".

I think right now that you should buy the bike that's available. I know two years ago, the stock was reduced because the previous year had poor sales. Because of that, there were few sizes of everything were far and few. Right now is also the time to scoop up the old 2011's and maybe some options on 2012's.

Bikes: Dahon Boardwalk for me and a Citizen Gothic for my daughter

I had the same question but I'm a 5ft female and none of the local shops carry road bikes in my size so I have to special order anyway. I'm testing out bikes now and saving money for my purchase in Jan/Feb.

If you buy now, there will be a newer, better version of your bike next year, in a prettier color, that makes you much happier.

If you wait and buy that one, there will be a newer, better version of that bike the year after.

The only way to figure out what's wrong with the current one is to ride it a bunch.

One or the other...not both. Prioritize!

I've had shops check inventory at the manufacturer's distribution center on last year's model and offer great deals on those.

Bikes: Trek Madone 4.7, Trek FX 7.5

I just bought a new 2011 trek madone 4.7 for over $600 off list. Paid $1999. Been wanting a good road bike to compliment my fx 7.5 and decided the 2012 didnt offer enough difference in the new bottom brackets to justify the huge difference in cost. Not sure if i could have bought this bike in the spring at that price or not and was concerned about finding a 2011 52cm in stock in the spring. Happy i pulled the trigger.

Bikes: 2013 Specialized S Works SL4 Keyline Red

I bought a 2012 Specialized Amira Apex for my wife at Kinetic Cycles in Elk Grove Ca. $2200 MSRP, they did a Price match with Mikes Bikes @ $1999 and did another 10% off for Cyber Monday. Total w/ tax was $1939.45, saved over $400. So buy now, they can order the 2012 for you, and always buy at the end of the month, if theyre low on their quota... they need to sell.

Keep buying until you get the divorce papers. That's when you know you bought one too many.

Oh wait that's not going to work, but hey, at least you will have more time to ride.

If you wait to buy a bike in the Spring, this price will increase along with the rising demand.
