Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Threaded Carbon Forks ---

Guys i had a question about switching from my old aluminum threaded fork to a new carbon threaded fork. I have a late 80's cannondale Road Bike which LOVE. The fork is all beaten up and chipping. So i wanted to upgrade to a new Carbon fork.
I see people love the Nashbar threaded forks... but they only come in 160mm & 175mm on the smaller side. I ride a 50cm bike, i am a small guy (in bike's terms )
Anyways, if the fork the sell is 50cm of threading i am still looking at like 160mm - about 35mm (to leave 15mm for the lock bolt) 135mm.
I measured my C'dale head tube to be 100mm including the headset pieces... so i am looking at the fact that the smallest size fork on Nashbar is still 35mm too large for me? is that possible? and what can be done to make it fit?

You can cut a threaded steerer.

Yep cut the threaded part off and a run a 1 inch threadless headset. BTW I would bet that your Cannondale's fork is steel, not aluminum.

A good shop will be able to cut more threads into the steerer if need be.

new threadless headset + threadless fork + new/style threadless stem = moe betta way to go.
likely the old headless is less than sparklin and might even be brinnelled...
a new ritchey logic headset is very inexpensive, works quite nice; add a nice, inexpensive threadless stem.

between the 3 new items you'll drop 1 3/4 lbs compared to old quill stuff and a steel fork...
and have a better functioning/riding front end.
BTW - that nashbar fork fits way nice on old C-dales...
