I don't expect the group to be out for a while. At least not until Sea Otter...where they do their unveiling. Possibly not until after the Giro or even the Tour to be made to the public.

According to the posted article it won't be available til summer 2012.

Is that Lance? If so, he must be getting old. Look at all those spacers above an already tall head tube.

The SRAM video says February 2012. Isn't SRAM pretty good about releasing things on time? I thought they made good on their word for the Black group, but then again that was only a color change.

Dear SRAM, our bikes are already at the UCI limit. We don't need another half pound of weight taken off. (The current groupsets tend toward flimsy already!) We dont need bold new graphics. We need function and durability.

Durability? In a professional groupset? That's like asking Hendrick Motorsports to build you a NASCAR engine that will last for 300,000 miles.

This is pro stuff. Pro teams have virtually unlimited access to replacement parts. These sets are designed to be light and when you get light you take away durability.

This is not rocket science.

BTW...why are you even mentioning the UCI weight limit? What difference would it make to you?

Think you can hang wth him and his old man bike?

Nope.

You didn't have to answer that one for me. I have no shame admitting that he would drop me like a bad habit. That still has nothing to do with my observation that he's getting old.

All of us do. Howsomeever, you remain in the shadows.

Wait until it's you and you want to try a Master's race and go against guys that were 1's or pros and drop you like a bad habit. And some will be maybe 10 years older than you.

Old age and treachery beats youth and exhuberance every time.

Yes, oh old wise one. I realize my day is coming, but until then I'll continue pointing out all the bikes with excessive spacers above their head tubes.

Commodus 12-01-11 01:15 PM

Well it's clearly not excessive. I imagine he's developed a few ideas of his own regarding bike fit by now.

The general public does not care about the UCI weight limit.

I know alot of people that race cross that would disagree about SRAM being "flimsy".

Is this arguing purely for the sake of arguing?

The pros don't need it lighter - they are already adding ballast to their bikes. And, if it breaks, it costs a pro a lot more than it costs you and me. There are far too many mechanical failures at major pro stage races. (Need I list the big ones SRAM has seen in recent years?)

And for non-pros, the same interests still apply.

Seattle Forrest 12-01-11 01:40 PM

So what color is the new Red going to be?

I <3 Robots 12-01-11 01:40 PM

Can you list them? Andy Schleck don't count...he dropped his chain on Di2 also...

here's something for you, young one that knows everything.

...Lance has always had a lot of spacers, it's probably because he has 2 or 3 fused vertebre in his lower back, but, having known everything, I am sure you know that already too ;)

Not sure what's up with the arm and leg warmers - it's been chilly here but not all that cold IMO. Maybe its colder for people who don't have as much insulation as I do. :D

Also there are rumors floating around that Sram is working on a hydrolic road group.

I actually did know he preferred to ride with a higher bar height, but I didn't know it was because of medical issues. I didn't mean to upset all the Lance fanboys by cracking a little internet joke (I'm a fan too, btw). Seeing him post-retirement and riding with a stack of spacers on a huge head tube just made it too easy.

The linked article mentions hydraulic rim calipers. Has anyone done that before?

Minion1 12-01-11 04:40 PM

Worry less about the stack and look at the saddle to bar drop. That would make my grandkids weep if I tried to ride that.

So my questions are. Are the new derailleurs compatible with the Red shifters I got off bonktown?

How did you pay for those shifters?
