Real Cyclist has crazy deals on all SRAM cranksets right now too. I just picked up an S900 crankset minus the BB for $159. They are going for $250 on eBay. They are definitely trying to reduce their inventory in preparation for something...probably tax reasons or something though since we are nearing the end of the year. Don't companies get taxed on their inventory or something along those lines?

I don't see botto around here much anymore. He was one of the few people that actually knew what they were talking about. Probably why he's essentially disappeared. The pros don't need it lighter - they are already adding ballast to their bikes. And, if it breaks, it costs a pro a lot more than it costs you and me. There are far too many mechanical failures at major pro stage races. (Need I list the big ones SRAM has seen in recent years?) And for non-pros, the same interests still apply.

I noticed that all the metadata is missing from that image. Normally you have camera model, f/stop, and all that stuff in the file details. I am not much of a botanist so I had no clue about the trees. :D

I'll bet there will be improvements such as quieter, smoothing rear shifting, and a sturdier front deraileur cage to improve front shifting. Also, 1/4 weight savings. Just these improvements would be substantial, IMHO.
You can see they did away with the cut off teeth in the rear cassette. |
I ran into one of the founders of SRAM that goes by his initials at a bar in Chicago last night. He said he could neither confirm nor deny *wink* a February 2012 release date.
