I think it's more that that video is worthless. All I could figure out from it is the new red cassette has cutouts in the back. The brakes might also be a different shape, but it was too artistically blurry and underlit to really tell anything worthwhile.

As much as I really enjoy SRAM on my bikes they seem to have stagnated recently with their groups. At this point changes seem to have been mostly cosmetic (Red - Black) and now it looks like maybe a slightly larger change in cosmetics. While there isn't much tech to be trickled down the line they could still give maybe the force or even Rival the zero loss on the right/ rear shifter. My guess is though they want to leave atleast one reason to buy SRAM Red other then just cosmetics and minuscule weight savings.

Bold new graphics! And . . . subtly different shapes / styling updates!! Woo-hoo!
Actually . . . and the shadows were too pronounced to know for sure . . . THIS Red crankset might be attractive enough for me to buy it. The present version just looks too cheesy to grab my money -- looks as if it were stamped out in somebody's garage. And the Force crankset (which I use) has more chainring issues than I like. Show that crankset in the light of day!

Don't worry bike radar is here with what may or may not be in the new group.

Dear SRAM, our bikes are already at the UCI limit. We don't need another half pound of weight taken off. (The current groupsets tend toward flimsy already!) We dont need bold new graphics. We need function and durability.

Frankly, after 2 SRAM groups...I'm looking forward to selling off my black and getting a nice 11speed DA mech next august. Really hoping Shimano goes to carbon cranks w/ the 9000 stuff.

"Maybe with the new FD, all the pro home mechanics in this forum can finally set one up properly"
There is something actually wrong with it on the design front. I've got a force group which shifts perfectly...the red Ti cage was sluggish and inconsistent.

Shimano 11spd won't be available in the aftermarket until mid 2013.

Well now we know why all the SRAM Red stuff has been on bonktown. I remember people telling me they weren't changing it.
So my questions are. Are the new derailleurs compatible with the Red shifters I got off bonktown?

So in a nutshell...
- 10 speed (which makes sense because I imagine they want to wait for Shimano to release the details of their 11-speed design first)
- they finally got rid of the stupid hollow, toothless design on their cassette (hollow = loud, toothless = crunchy inconsistent shifts)
- apparently a really nice crank design
- beefy and redesigned FD (about time)
- really over the top and gaudy graphics (not a good thing IMO)
- new brake design with unknown performance benefit
I'll pass judgement once it comes out though.

I don't expect the group to be out for a while. At least not until Sea Otter...where they do their unveiling. Possibly not until after the Giro or even the Tour to be made to the public.

I'd be willing to bet they will be compatible. The rear derailleur for sure, but the front might not because that linked article above says the FD rotates a bit to assist the chain movement. That might be purely a function of the FD itself though, so the old levers might still work.
