Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

SIDI vs. Shimano

Hi Guys,

I know this question may look like its been address multiple times in the past but I do have a new angle...

I wear a size 49 Shimano RO87 and am looking at some of the SIDI Genius 5 Pro road shoes...

I used to read that SIDIs are at least a size smaller than Shimano, but I'm hearing that SIDI sizing has changed recently (last few years) and their size chart seems to indicate that I should be a 48 (Im a US13).

Anyone recently bought some SIDIs that also has some newer Shimanos?

Can't answer the question, but my understanding is that there's also a notable discrepancy in the width of their offerings - don't overlook that aspect.

I have and wear size 47 in both SIDis and Shimanos. The SIDIs are just a tad tighter in the toe box/forefoot area. I advise that you go try them on in a local store.

Would you say the length is the same? What year model are they?

Also, what sneaker size are you? (sorry for all the questions).

Yes, the length are the same. I have SIDI 6.6 and Ergo2, and also Shimano R131 and R215.

Sneaker/running shoes/Gym shoe size is USA 12.

Yeah...go the local shop and try their shoes on. Once you've gotten that free information, you can go to the internet and buy them.

This reminds me of the photo I saw in a Borders....if you want to use the restroom, go on the internet.

I have had both Shimano and Sidi shoes. The difference for my feet is that I have a narrow heel in comparison to the rest of my foot and the Sidi shoes seem to have a much narrower heel then do the Shimano shoes. Everybody's feet are different so the only way to find out which shoe is better you must try them on including other brands as well.

Seems to be a heap of advice to try them on first. Obviously I would if I could...and I wouldn't need to ask a question on this forum.

But in my corner of this pale blue dot it's impossible to find a shop that stocks a 49 our a 50 for you to try on...and dont get me started on trying to find a lbs that stocks larger frame bikes...

Duckbill - are your SIDIs and Shimanos the same size? Is it just the heal and general width thsts the difference?

Sidis are narrower than Shimanos. I have a pair of 48 Sidis, and a pair of 48 Shimanos. The Sidis are Megas, and they're just a tad wider than the Shimanos.

I'm considering Sidis and Bonts atm. I wear the R087s currently in a wide fit but they are a litle roomy. There is a size chart but prob too late for you Lexi:

Hope they fit and would be keen to find out how they fit.

Crap it!

The shoes just arrived at work...too big! And I'm talking way too big.

Fur those of you interested. I currently wear a 49 Shimano R087. I bought SIDI Genius Pro 5 in a 49 mega...

Looks as though these does run a size bigger. I reckon I'm a 48 normal width...

Lucky Wiggle do returns.

That's a bummer Lexi. I printed out the SIDI size chart over the weekend it is says I am a 43 regular width, and I wear 46 R087s currently! If I go down that route I will see if someone I rides with has a 43 to check first.
