Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Recommendations for white bartape

Looking for some new bartape, and to match my white saddle, I want it to be white

-must be padded. love fizik tape feel, but my hands hurt if there isn't any padding to the tape
-easy to clean. i dont want something that will turn brown in one ride, and be damn near impossible to clean without resorting to voodoo magic to get the tape clean again

for white tape, fizik is the only stuff i'll use, because of how durable it is, and how grime doesnt really stick to it like the cork styled tapes.

i really dont like any padding at all on my bar tape, but one of the guys i ride with regularly has double tape on his cross bike, which he swears by, cheap cork tape, with the fizik stuff over it, seems to work well for him and be the fizik feel with a little padding to it. something to consider...

Fizik Dual bar tape is what I use. Very durable and it cleans easily with a bit of simple green.

I've started using SRAM tape and I am very happy with it. It has plenty of padding but it is not bulky, perfect in my opinion. This one has the red writing but it is available without.

I run the Microtex as the top layer of double wrapped bars. Alone, the Microtex is so thin that I feel like I'm grabbing straight bar.

A friend of mine produces a classic white leather bar tape. My girlfriend's been riding on it for most of a year, and it still looks brand new. Global Cycling Supply

None of my business, but I can't resist pointing out that white bar tape and saddles are abominations. Why use white on the two parts of the bike that get dirtiest?

I don't mind spending $10 or so every 6 months to replace my tape. It's not that big of a deal compared to the amount of money I spend on this sport.

Fizik Microtex is super easy to clean, and cleans well. Looks brand new after a wipedown with a towel, water, and a little soap.

I have to replace my tape about every three months. That's probably because I use old school cloth tape. Good feel to it.

I'll echo what several others have posted and say Lizard Skins. I've had it several times and it's got a nice feel to it and is easy to clean. Also, a really easy way to clean it is to hit it with some Oxy Clean once a month, let it sit a few minutes, then come back and wipe it off with a moist towel.

Because I am no more or less vain than any other road cyclist, and the white saddle looks better on my bike than the black variant of the saddle does. However, I think that white tape would compliment that white saddle.

Sore hands= poor fit or weak core. Thicker bar tape won't help. That said, Lizard Skins does a nice job dampening vibration.

Point well taken with regards to bar tape. But my white saddle has stayed spotlessly clean for years.

uh, yes it does help. I have a stiff aluminum frame and the roads are not the best around here. It's the vibration that bothers my hands over a long ride, not too much weight on them.
