1080 Miles.
Some time involved.
Some climbing involved.

Much of it done on American Classic hubs, DT Spokes 28/24, and Velocity Fusion rims. surgeonstone was asking about wheels, and these have been nothing short of spectacular. They have a whack of miles on them, and are still going strong. That said, I also have the DT hubs, CX-Ray, and Reynolds rims, that kick ass as well.

The Kinlins have had some issues, but that's mainly from big folks riding small spoke count wheels. A few extra spokes aren't going to hurt a thing. Soon, I will be on the Kinlin/CX-Ray/White deal, and will see what all the stink is.

I know some bigger folks have tried to use the XR-200 with poor results. The magical intersection between weight and performance.

There's nothing flashy about the 270 or 300 with CX Rays and WI hubs. You don't see it and think, wow, that's hot. It just gets the job done.

That's all I have ever asked. When a component goes unnoticed for a long stretch of time, that's when it should be appreciated the most.

If LAJ and rjones28 bred they would produce a normal cyclist.

gnome 02-01-12 11:32 AM

I think I did about 300km this month. not bad for having two weeks away on holiday/honeymoon.

I think we'd need to move to Tennessee first.

Actually, as a small person on 270s & cx-rays, I freaking HATE my kinlin rims, they have brake pulse. I had the rear one replaced under warranty b/c of it, and then the front one started doing it. Never again for me on the kinlins. they are crap.

That's interesting. What a pain in the ass.

A lot of builders, including psimet, are using them almost exclusively for their alloy clinchers. My wife has been on the Kinlin/CX Rays/WI build since 2009 with no issues.

If surgeonstone is still reading this, he can always go with Velocity rims. We have a pair of Velocity Spartacus Pros (Deep V rims) that have been on every bike in the house. I'm using them on my commuter now and keep expecting them to explode, esp with the paired spokes, but they keep going strong.

Sounds like LAJ has had a similar experience with Velocity.

Ooooh, an-udder addiction! Sign me up!

Jan - 193miles. Pretty boo-hiss given our June-uary trend of 50-65degree weather but alas work and sickness kept me occupied. Any month with good weather and more roller "miles" than outdoor "real miles" equals a very sad-faced Hoku...

Oh, and figures I finally have a little free time in the next week and NOW snow and 20-30F are on the schedule...

datlas 02-01-12 12:37 PM

Good club ride today. There were some very early morning showers before ride time so the roads were wet initially...but no rain and temps went up into the 50's and nearly 60 and sunny by day's end.

I know for you west coasters this is probably normal, but for those of us in the northeast, it was a gift from the cycling weather gods.

LAJ 02-01-12 12:39 PM

That is no good, valygrl. I am hoping for a better experience.

Maybe I'm just unlucky. Vecchio's told me they see this in the Kinlins, it's just not a very high-quality product, in terms of materials. They were recommending the velocity, which i think is the same rim i had on my velomax ascent II's which i loved but wore out. It only took 9 years, though. I'm dreaming of Zipp 303 firecrests or Enve system 3.4 but my checkbook said "no"

valygrl 02-01-12 12:44 PM

SO it's supposed to be my rest day in between LT workouts but it's gorgeous out and it's supposed to snow tomorrow, so.... see you later!

LAJ, hope you don't hve the same experience with the Kinlins.

Ah, nice. I only had time for a lunch ride, so I did a quick plains loop on my tt-ified road bike.
