While doing a little cleaning of the bike today, I noticed that my rear tire had worn to the tread in several pockmarked places. I was shocked that I hadn't noticed previously, but then I realized that I hadn't had a single flat on that set of tires.

My tires are show some wear as well

Tire for carbon rims

I have the Mavic Cosmic Carbone SL Wheelset and last year ran 4000-s tires and they were great. The only issue was that the wheels seems big and or the tires are small.

The 4000-s are starting to show wear and I thinking that it time to purchase a new set of tires. So my question is their a brand of tire that is larger so that it will mount better and will they be as good as the 4000-S?

Same here. Downtown out east and back.

And now, my tie is back on. Kinda gross, but it works. The office needs a shower.

We need to act on this:

House Bill Reverses Decades of Progress on Bike/Ped
It’s so much worse than we thought
Today, the House released its transportation bill, the American Energy and Infrastructure Jobs Act. We expected the bill to be bad news for biking and walking, but we didn’t think it would go so far as to reverse all the progress we have made in the past twenty years.
Take action now—tell your representative to preserve biking and walking in the Transportation Committee.
House leadership is exerting pressure to completely cut bicycling and walking out of transportation. Lawmakers seem to have gone through line-by-line to gut programs that make streets safer. The outrageous American Energy and Infrastructure Jobs Act:
  • Destroys Transportation Enhancements by making the program optional
  • Repeals the Safe Routes to School program, reversing years of progress in creating safe ways for kids to walk and ride bicycles to school
  • Allows states to build bridges without safe access for pedestrians and bicycles
  • Eliminates bicycle and pedestrian coordinators in state DOTs
But there’s still a chance to save biking and walking. This week, Representatives Petri (R-WI) and Johnson (R-IL) plan to stand up to leadership by offering an amendment that restores dedicated funding for Transportation Enhancements and Safe Routes to School. Representative Petri and Johnson can only be successful if everyone with a stake in safe sidewalks, crosswalks, and bikeways contacts their Congressional Member today.
This is as urgent as it gets. If members of the Transportation Committee are going to stand up to House leadership by supporting biking and walking, they will need to know their constituents are behind them. Please contact Congress today and ask them to preserve dedicated funding for biking and walking.
Thank you for all you’re doing to preserve biking and walking.

I've been keeping my bike in the car. It's been great for days like this - super easy to get a quick ride in without much planning when the weather is nice.

By flipping the rack around, bike and car seat can co-exist together.

You had some lake effect a few days ago, no? I know, not big enough.

Some time involved.
Some climbing involved.

Much of it done on American Classic hubs, DT Spokes 28/24, and Velocity Fusion rims. surgeonstone was asking about wheels, and these have been nothing short of spectacular. They have a whack of miles on them, and are still going strong. That said, I also have the DT hubs, CX-Ray, and Reynolds rims, that kick ass as well.

The Kinlins have had some issues, but that's mainly from big folks riding small spoke count wheels. A few extra spokes aren't going to hurt a thing. Soon, I will be on the Kinlin/CX-Ray/White deal, and will see what all the stink is.

Where did you get and how much?

If surgeonstone is still reading this, he can always go with Velocity rims. We have a pair of Velocity Spartacus Pros (Deep V rims) that have been on every bike in the house. I'm using them on my commuter now and keep expecting them to explode, esp with the paired spokes, but they keep going strong.

Sounds like LAJ has had a similar experience with Velocity.

I am and I appreciate the input

They were hand built at a local shop here. But, there are many options out there where you can specify the same build.

No. Or at least it didn't look like it. We got a couple of inches. 4" tops. It's all gone now.

rjones28 02-01-12 04:12 PM

I just checked, we've only had like 32" of snow all season. We're winning the Golden Snowball contest though.

Downtown. The building has underground parking.

Velo Vol 02-01-12 04:31 PM

Official winter snowfall:

December: 0.1 inch
January: T (whatever that means)

rjones28 02-01-12 04:32 PM

T = trace amounts, not worth measuring.

I don't remember the track, but was part of that from that freak October storm? Not counting that, we've had like 6" all season. Thankfully we're never in the contest.

I know what it stands for but I don't know what it means. A few snowflakes in the measuring instrument?

At any rate, we're competing for the Water Snowball contest.

Yeah. I think they start the new season in July or some other summer month.

Edit: NOAA say 7/1.

Loving the weather! I have been able to ride outside and stay in shape. The trainer has not seen the light of day.

I live north of the New York State Thruway, which is the normal dividing line for lake effect in Syracuse, and we got 3-4". Some areas around Fulton, which are probably 20 miles from me, got 32".

If someone hit me with a golden snowball, I wouldn't lick the fragments off my face.

Just sayin'.

Fortunately, you won't have to concern yourself with that until you have more than a trace of snow.

So I just spent a bit of time on Sram's site looking at the new Red. All the parts I use are the same weight as last year except for the cassette. I already have lighter brakes, and lighter cranks. I'm also working on making a old Force RD down around 100g, or 45g less than Red. I always like when companies let me down. I like improving their old stuff better than buying new stuff anyway. Hopefully current Red prices will go down now.
