Pcad plays and sings. Just go to that link and hit the play icon. Recorded over about 5 hours at my pal's house in Florida over two days. I laid down the rhythm and lead guitars (and the guitar fills) and the singer from Az's band laid down the backup vocals. One take on the vocals for me, one or two on the guitar parts, we didn't want to go nuts, just for laughs. Could have overdubbed one or two sketchy vocal moments. There was a bass track on this, but that seems to come and go depending on what MP3/4 format you're in. First time I've ever been recorded really.

Go easy on me, I'm a total Music Fred.

Hey Pcad,

I applaud you for playing your music. I doubly applaud you for posting it. You have a lot of balls.

I'm a pro musician. Take this for what it is, it isn't any kind of insult and it is meant purely as an indication of where you might look in the future. Pay attention to the groove. You've got music in you. The groove is so important. Listen for it, play it.

Good on ya for doing what you're doing. Cycling, music, CAD.

Thanks.

I see you got a better song writer this time out. ;)

Thanks soma, it's a hobby for me, and I just picked it up again after a ten year layoff. I do it purely for fun. You know, 20 years ago some guy made fun of my singing and it put the zap on my head. Recently I've come to realize that even if you aren't the next American Idol if you can hold a friggin tune at all it's a big advantage in any jamming situation or venue, so why not? Good grief, more than half the people @ open mics are even awfuller than I am, so WTF?

My guitar playing is coming along. The singing's not hard for me, I do that in the friggin shower. I'll get better at playing in the pocket once I figure out where the pocket is.

Being a pro musician is not an easy job, that's for sure. I know a few of them.

It's this Smokey Robinson kid. He may go somewhere with that talent.

patentcad 02-01-12 11:46 PM

Besides, you expose yourself to embarrassment when you post stuff like this on the web, but you also can get some valuable input and feedback. Hey, I don't like my own voice, but I've had plenty of other people say they like it. My pal Az who recorded that says EVERYBODY he records doesn't like their own voice on tape. And why would you? You hear it through your head one way 99.999999999999% of the time, and when you hear it played back at you it sounds completely different, and I think that throws most people for a loop.

Happily, when I am singing, I don't have to listen to me. The hapless audience has to listen to it.

soma5 02-01-12 11:57 PM

Hey, Pcad, you're doing good. Music is a funny thing. There are no objective measures. There is only the elusive "it sounds good." Go for it.

Soloist Assassin 02-02-12 07:20 AM

pcad, I am thoroughly impressed. You sound really good. I like it! Well done!

patentcad 02-02-12 09:07 AM

Yeah well the deafening silence on the guitar forum page tells me that the musicians consider me a total Music Fred. And who can argue with that? At least you can't get hit by the bus playing your guitar and singing at some open mic night. In cycling news, my knee was whacked yesterday, but it has responded nicely to Advil, time to ride.

I really miss Chester.

I second that emotion, 4+ years after the fact.

Are music Freds as nerdy as cycling Freds?

Only if they attach lights to musical instruments.

Awesome uncle Fred-er... Pcad! Really brought a smile to my face so thanks for sharing. BTW, on a sharing note I might as well mention that you, your return to playing, and Tom's "what instrument do you play" thread a while back inspired me tremendously. I've always found excuses (no matter how valid) for not talking the time to completely learn to play instruments despite my deep passion for music. I always sang but just didn't put the sedentary time into practicing to play. You inspired me to change that for the 2012 and beyond. I've practiced nearly everyday this year and I couldn't be much happier for it! Thanks a bunch!

And some think you are only good for snark... ;)

Too funny, that is what I use and it didn't even occur to me.

They aren't that funny. Unless you start a "show us your odometer for last month" thread, which would be kind of comical.

You must post a picture of your bike with those things mounted on it.

rjones28 02-02-12 01:13 PM

Or you could start a "show us your road bike with platform pedals" thread.
