Went out and bought me a new toy today.

*edited - nobody cares about my new toys. :(

SRSLY! I love it when "exercise" inventions seem made for future orthopedic business...

But not as much pounding on your legs.

I guess those would be "maximalist" footwear. Then we have the "minimalist" footwear.

Which do I choose?

It's very confusing.

The Kangaroos could double as snowshoes for you. You can walk in the snow and your feet won't get wet.

They only look like they'd be good up to six inches or so. Also, I wonder if they come with studs for icy conditions.

Given that there's only been 0.1" of snow this winter, I'd say that's plenty high.

True. It was 50 degrees today.

Are those springy things carbon fiber?

Velo Vol 02-06-12 04:21 PM

No, if they were they would explode.

Might be a little too late for our senior members, but the rest may have some Wolverine-like rebuilds in our golden years - Doctors use 3D (titanium) printing to rebuild a woman's jaw

rjones28 02-06-12 04:41 PM

Hope it comes with a good warranty.

If memory serves, titanium is 100 years, carbon fiber is only 1 year.

Thanks for the tips. I can ride ok and I can run 8 minute miles which is nothing special but I think acceptable....but it takes me 40 seconds to swim one length of the pool 25m which I know is pretty weak.

Unless you're going for the win, a 30-40 second 25m is just fine. Just make up for it on the bike, which is all that that matters anyway.

One more thing--don't cheap out on the wetsuit. For some reason I spend thousands on my bike and a bunch on shoes, but went with a cheap wetsuit. Tried a nicer one (I'm using an XTerra Vector Pro X2 now) and it's like night and day. The big things to look for are arm flexibility and focused buoyancy. I used to hate wetsuit swims and now I prefer open water to the pool. I'm still only a semi-ok swimmer though.

Just go have fun. The great thing about triathlon is you can fall off the back and still finish. Your only real competition is yourself.

How 'bout that Trek? Passing on Eurobike and hosting their own Trek fest of sorts instead.

rjones28 02-06-12 07:38 PM

I'm pretty sure they already put on a Trek World event in the US like they're going to have in Europe, but I think they still go to Interbike.

More cycling, less guitar.

v70cat 02-07-12 07:26 AM

More cycling, less (no) guns.

Thanks for the tips.

I went ahead and got an Xterra "Volt" sleevless wetsuit on clearance for 99 bucks. I am not sure if this qualifies as a "good" wetsuit but the price was right. I am going to work on some drills in the pool and see how it goes. If my swim ends up being weak, I don't mind that much, just more folks to pass during the bike.

BTW are you in private practice now or still military?
