Speaking of which, does anyone know how to fix a freewheel?

The new Fray album 'Scars and Stories' gets the Pcad IPod Seal of Approval, so that should be good for another $5-$10 of iTunes revenue for the band. Where's my cut?

You buy a new one from Amazon. Does that help?

What's wrong with it? Is it broken??

Or do you want to convert it to "fixed" gear?!?

A while back, on my other wheels, it started "catching" so that you can't coast--you have to keep pedaling. It's been sitting in storage but I really should get it back in working order.

I usually do what Pcad suggested.

Or weld the outer part to the inner part if you really want it fixed.

How exactly is me saying that I own a gun and I like to shoot targets political?

THIS!

I think that LowCel's pro gun bias is causing him to act inappropriately.

I was also responding to a post in a humorous way. If, the sight of a firearm is too much for you to take, and you consider it political, I don't know what to tell you. I don't care about football, or guitars. I don't get on here and start whining every time someone posts about such. I might call football dumb here, and there, and ignore the guitar talk, but that's about it.

Sometimes a thorough flushing with sovents and/or a few drops of light lube like Triflow or sewing machine oil will allow it to freewheel again. If you know anyone with a parts washer that's the way to go, otherwise a big can of WD40.

Sometimes just a few drops of oil dribbled in gets the job done.

Freewheels are really simple I've serviced them on all of my wheels. They all come apart a little different, but they all have the same concept. Pop them apart. clean them, and then lube.

I'm pretty sure that to fix a rocket, you take it apart and, if the parts are broken, you replace them. Is that rocket science?

I need a special tool to open it, right?

It could be I suppose. Usually rockets are only used once I think so usually if parts are broken, they get fubar'd by the time gravity is done with them.

Sorry I edited and removed that post, for I saw gomer answered my question, and I overlooked it.

My Zipp, and Spinergy freewheels came apart with no special tools, just allen keys. Not sure what you have, but it shouldn't be a major ordeal.

LesterOfPuppets 02-09-12 03:24 PM

Try dibbling oil in or flushing without opening the freewheel. I like to remove FW and dribble/flush from the backside.

On occasions where I've found myself without freewheel removal tool(s) I've freed a couple up just by dribbling in from the front.

If you wanna go nuts, Most freewheels can be opened with a hammer and a punch but sometimes pawls and springs pop out and there are a LOT of little bearings to deal with. I've only opened one up once and I'm hoping that's the only time ever.

That "dopping" thread is full of win.

Sounds like you're talking about freehub bodies here. Of course VV may in fact be working with a freehub, so it might be applicable

This is a very interesting short film my co-worker just showed me:

I'm pretty sure that is more rocket surgery than science.

Who can say which it is? Not me.

So winter is returning this weekend. Dumb.

There's a rumour that Velo Gator and coasting are having a MUP fling. Apparently she has a thing for guys with platform pedals.

I own a bunch of AK47's, combat shotguns, sig P229 pistols, etc., and I have a guitar, plus about 10,000 rounds of 7.62x39 ammo. I am a democrat.

go figure.

I need much, much more ammo. I only have about 700 rounds of .223 ammo, and about 300 rounds of both .40 and 9mm ammo.
