Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Well, that may be pushing it. But I understand. I had that need too. I realize now that I have one, the need/want was warranted. It is a different ride.

It's like having a 3sum. You might not be an orgy guy, but you'd like to try it once.

A new set of wheels doesn't give me quite as much of a difference of a feel as stepping back into a crappier set of wheels does. when I ride stock wheels now, it is extremely noticeable because I am used to much better. If you can notice the difference in reverse, it is there in drive as well. Maybe just not as extreme.
I've never seen a CXP22 wheelset. Mavic sells them as rims. So the Aksiums and CXPs don't really compete, obviously.

They are quite strong and if you did have problems with the hubs or spokes you could easily work on them. Actually I'd have to say that the Aksiums are a significant step backwards, since you're getting all the downsides of a factory wheel and really none of the advantages.

They come standard on many entry-level bikes and can be found on Craigslists for about $100.-$125. as "take-offs".
Mine are being used as trianer wheels and back-ups. I'm sure glad I didn't sell them off when I upgraded.

What Commodus is saying is that (for the time being) Mavic makes rims only: CXP22, CXP23, Open Sport, Open Pro, etc. And they make complete factory wheels, Aksium, Ksyrium, etc.

The CXP rim can built into a good wheel or a poor one depending on the builder and spokes and hubs used. OEM wheels are likely machine built (poorly) and use straight guage spokes and cheap hubs. If they are flexy or not durable it is not the rim's fault.
