Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Red or White?

I'm upgrading to a Ritchey WCS cockpit (bars, stem and seat post) on my CAAD9 and have the terribly important decision to make between red and white.

My paint scheme is like this one:

Tough, I know.

White.

Because red sucks, and your bike already has too much of it.

Having said that, I accidentally voted for "red." LOL

red would be horrific. white is fine. I'd do black bar tape and white hoods. saddle doesn't matter unless you only spend time taking pictures of it.

not that anyone with a caad9 would ever do anything like that.

// Deda has some cool steel gray looking stuff, but may not play nice with the frame color. Just throwin it out there.

What on Earth could you mean?

I was already leaning white. What the hell color bartape goes with red bars anyways? Alright, now I'm really sounding hopeless!

For the record, I don't even have one picture of my bike!

Saddle, tape, stem, hoods = white only on a white frame. Black on any other frame. Period.

agree with this, and also should mention that silver or gunmetal grey bar tape or other accessories could be really damn cool.

however it also could be a travesty. unless you see this stuff first-person before buying, it's a crapshoot.

By bullet point 3, I believe white bars, stem and post is allowable but I would need to have black bar tape.

Or black (with sigh of dejection).

Ritchey WCS is a fine choice. Which bars are you choosing though?

I voted white. Perhaps you should change the bar tape to black or red afterwards for color balance though?

There's lot's of talk about cockpits, bling, upgrades, grams, $3,500 CAAD 9's, and absolutely zero talk of riding.

The only way (and I stress only) for red to look cool is if each and every red part matches and is the exact same shade. In the picture (which isn't the OP's bike), you can even tell the pedals, computer, and decals are not the same shade and it makes everything look out of place. The reason black is cool is because it's boring.

I've never been over there. Do they have a Pcad, Psimet, Lemondfanforeve, Botto, etc, too? Like that episode of Bizarro Seinfeld?

If it has to be one or the other then I say white but black would look best.

Don't know about that, I'm not a regular. Looks like he's about as admired as he is here. I remember he got banned from RBR last year, though I don't know what for. Probably exceeded the site's animated .gif allowance.
