Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I just started riding in August, but if I maintain my present rate, I should ride 3500-4000 next year. That's not a goal in and of itself, but 80-100 miles a week seems to be what works for me. I'm just getting a taste of being shut out by winter weather, though, and hear chocolate pie calling me when I'd rather be on the bike.

Envy is the main reason I think, but anyone who has the lifestyle they want has to deal with that, so it doesn't bother me.

As said above, I'd like to have a crack at 25,000km in 2005. Physically I'm up to it (looking at around 22,000 this year), but finding the time and avoiding burnout are the real challenges here.

I just started riding this year.
I'm going to set my goal at 2005 miles.
Between work and a 2 yr old, it's hard to make time to ride. But that's my goal.....

No 2005 goal yet, but it definitely won't be a distance goal. I set a goal of 1 million vertical feet for 2004, which I achieved in October. I have 1,201,901 as of today, with 14,441 miles.

That goal was too time consuming. Next year, I want to focus on doing well on a couple of specific rides/races. I want to do a sub-10 hour at the Climb to Kaiser in June, and I really want to break 12 hours at the Everest Challenge in September. The first one should be fairly easy, but the 12-hour Everest will be pretty tough.

My goals are "days", not miles. In 2004, I rode on about 300 days. A friend of mine would have hit about 360 days, except he ended up in the hospital for a few days, so he was at about 350 days. So, to beat his record, I want to ride at least 355 days during 2005.

Looking to crack the 5,000 mile mark next year. I only started again towards the end of May this year and should hit 2,500 by the end of the year.
I'll need a better bike though, the hybred I bought is fine for what I originally envisioned I'd be doing, but the bug got me. The computer upgrade is going to have to wait.

Well living here in sucky OH and 10" deep in snow shoots down alot of winter riding. I'm looking to up my avg of 150mi/wk to 200mi/wk for '05 (Mar-Nov).

My main goal though is training for the DALMAC Quint-Century Aug 31-Sept 4th. 5 days / 500mi...I will need ALOT of training to pull it off.

My goal since last summer is to keep a 10 mile per day average, only counting the days where the road conditions allow for riding (less than half of the year)

I'm just over 5200 miles for this year with about 350,000 verticle feet of climbing. Next year I'd like to hit 7000 miles, but more importantly I want 600,000 verticle feet of climbing. I really need to get rid of about 30 pounds too.

My road cycling goal is 6000 miles this year. That ends up being about 110 per week on a road bike. That goal should be failrly easy as I put on over 80 - 90 miles min a week on the trainer and 60 - 70 minimum a week on road rides. When summer comes I will try for 110 miles per week on the road in accompany to the trainer miles which should be 120+ per week.

This goal does not count all the miles I put in at work which can easily top 4000 - 5000 per year.

Work and weather got in the way of my making the 2004 goal, so I am repeating it ... 5,500 miles in 2005.

100 miles a week; 5200 for the year. Basically what I've been doing but with better consistancy during the cold months. Although an expected job change could really mess that up with a change in commuting miles.

I do about 5000 miles a year on the road. Don't know how to, or even care to, figure out how many miles on the trainer in the basement. (wisconsin and I don't like the cold) Probably about 10 hours a week at a pace of 20 MPH so 200 miles times about 20 weeks. HOLY CRAP another 4000 miles in the basement!!!!! Guess I do care. I remember getting into cutting the lawn in diagnal patterns just before starting serious biking. No time for that crap now!

I'm shooting for: 10,800 miles in 2005.

That means: 300 miles/week from April through November.

5200 miles, my first top 3 finish in a criterium, and a top ten in the Greenville Cycling Classic.
