Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Velocity rims.......

deep v's are all the rage with fixie types around here, but does anybody actually train and race on their products with geared bikes? they seem pretty robust but seems like they have been pigeoned holed as a cool kids brand and not something road folks seek out.

I have Deep Vs for my bullet-proof commuter wheels and they do the job well. The A23s and others are pretty nice for training wheels I hear.

Synergy's on two bikes, Aeroheads on a third.
All with O/C rims on the rear.

I have a set of Velocity Fusion rims laced to Ultegra hubs. Rock solid wheelset and not too heavy.

some guy around here is always selling premade wheel sets. i dont know where he gets them but maybe he imports them himself. anyway, right now he is selling a bunch of aerohead wheelsets laced to some neat looking high flange formula hubs for $175. seems like a really good price.

Bikes: Yes

I just finished building a set of wheels with A23's today. They were a bit trickier to work with than the few other rims I've used, but I'm tentatively pleased with the end product. I can't wait to get them on the road.

Built my own set with a o/c rear aerohead on the rear and 28 spoke, 24 radial fusion on the front. After 2500 miles zero work, still true, and not very heavy. The hubs were very basic formula hubs and I just love the wheels. I just use regular DB spokes too and even find that better.

Bikes: are better than yours.

I've got an oc aerohead PT wheel on my backup bike and a wheelset with Razor rims around somewhere.

I have a Power Tap SL+ laced to a Velocity A23 rear and mated with a November FSW23 (Velocity A23?) front. Put several thousand miles on them through winter and indoor trainer. They have been stout wheels and when I get my quarq I will most likely replace the rear with another A23 November wheel for my aluminum set.

I built some A23s with the Velocity Race hubs, 28 & 24 2X. It was my first build and they're round, true, and relatively stiff, so I guess the rims are fairly easy to work with. Like 'em a lot. The rear hub is eerily quiet, though. Not that I like a really loud hub, but this is just kind of spooky quiet.

I've been using Deep V's now for almost 2 years, the pair that I got seems to laugh at NYC potholes

I have a set of Velocity Fusion rims laced up to Shimano XTR hubs for my cross bike and Velocity A23 rims laced to Ultegra hubs for my lugged steel bike. They are solid and true. I like my RR585 rims more, but they were way more expensive. Check out velomine.com They have some good prices for built wheels.

Bikes: LOOK 595 Ultra/Campy Record 10Sp, restored Guerciotti/Campy C-Record 6 Sp, TIME RXR/Campy SR 11Sp, and Colnago C-60 with Campagnolo SR 11sp.

Had a tubular set built with my PT in them. Very solid wheels and not weight weenie even remotely. Hated them for the single reason that the area where the tire sits is so flat that it caused the tire to have poor gluing contact and less surface area to attach to. Even when the tire was glued and left to dry deflated so it would glue to the entire surface, the moment you inflated it to 120 PSI it seems like half the glued surface would come undone. First and only set of wheels I've had that was like that, so I now use the rims to stretch new tires!

I really like my A23s laced to White Industries hubs. Great everyday, sturdy wheels.

I've used their escape tubular for cyclocross. It was functionally awesome, but the QC on the finishing left something to be desired-- e.g., metal curls still attached to the spoke holes that I had to file away. From talking to some shop mechanic buddies, this is unfortunately a common problem with Velocity-- one that can be overcome with minimal effort, but a problem nonetheless.

That being said, at the last cross race of the season I had my rear wheel destroyed by someone wrecking in to me and I will be rebuilding with the Major Toms, which are their wider tubulars.

I have a set of wheels - 36 hole, Dyad Rims and Phil 7 speed freewheel hubs that are awesome and I have yet to have an issue.

I also have a wheelset that uses Synergy rims with OC in the rear. These are also great wheels but they have Shimano LX hubs and I wish they were Phil hubs instead.

I use these on a Rivendell Sam Hillborne and they both work very well for that bike.
