What is with all the "ie"s popping up in threads and thread titles? "Roadie" and "fixie", when did we return to 3rd grade?

I am sure they will. Your logic doesn't seem the most sound, but irregardless ride what you like.

I think you should put a lid on it and re-apply your mascara.

Just a bunch of HFCS, MSG crap.

That's a good idea for a recipe book: "Cooking with High-Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) and Monosodium Glutamate (MSG)."

Should be an American bestseller.

I don't think that word means what you think it means.

Homeless people are always lining up outside the hospital for the free food.

patentcad 05-16-12 08:24 AM

My 2 day stay in the hospital last June cost over $10,000. That's utterly ridiculous.

I'm thinking about having it permanently applied so I can quit worrying about it so much. Where I ride so fast on my junky, non-cervelo bikes, my eyes constantly water and the mascara just runs non-stop.

That's almost enough to buy you another bike.

I'm feeling GREAT, thanks. Been riding for one month now, every day we can, which is really about 2-3 days a week. Sunday, wife said she wanted to do a ride for Mother's Day. Our goal was 30 miles. We did 26.5 before we had to stop. I could have made 40-50 I think, but would have paid the price for it. My right leg (sans hammy) is a little tender right now, but nothing major. The other muscles are just learning how to deal with their new reality..and bein ga little whiny about it! The act of riding, though, is amazing. One, I'm out there (as opposed to the alternative!) and two, I'm doing it with my wife. She won't let me ride alone...at least until I get to the point where I want to go climb a mountain. Then....I think I'll be on my own.

I did find one challenge. I rode up to my church on Saturday for a tech rehearsal for a major event we had on Sunday. The church is at the top of a large hill, and I decided failure was not an option. I made it to the top without stopping, but realized (too late) that I didn't have enough strength in my right leg to unclip...and over I went. Ooops. Oh well. The guy standing there is a friend and we just laughed about it. I blame it on the lack of hamstring, but in all honesty, I'm just a wimp!

Insurance?

Our part of that fiasco came to about $1500. Insurance sucks these days, we lay out thousands in co-pays and deductibles that we didn't have to 10 years ago. The standard of living in the USA is on a slippery slope, and there is nowhere to go but down.

Yeah, agreed. My last position at a National Governing Body of a certain winter sport (and non-profit) provided all insurance. It was awesome, and I hated to leave.

I tried recently to forego my employer-sponsored insurance and go high deductible + HSA. It turns out to be incredibly difficult and in the end, is not really a significant boon as they severely restrict what plans are 'qualified', and those plans are much more expensive.

There's no point.

From the body types of most of the nurses, and patients. I think that book is already out.

I remember about 13 years ago I was working for NAPA and I had to have hernia surgery. My part of it cost me a total of $15 and that includes doctors visits and prescriptions. I now work for the government and the same procedure would probably cost me about $2,000 out of pocket.

RT 05-16-12 11:15 AM

It all rolls downhill, baby.

LesterOfPuppets 05-16-12 11:20 AM

I secretly wish this would happen to me whilst out on a ride one day. ;)

Don't get sick or injured. It's that simple.

Bear all this in mind the next time some imbecile tells you the USA has 'the best healthcare system in the world'. Yeah, except for the 20 or so countries that rank ahead of us in health outcomes and cost efficiency. I'm confident that over time things healthcare coverage will get increasingly lame for increasing numbers of people and at that point a national healthcare system will start to look like a better plan instead of something people mistrust and fear.

if you want efficiency, and quality get the government out of it. <this can be applied to pretty much everything>

This is what idiots always say when they disagree with anyone. But if I move to Canada the only people left here in the States will be the morons.

Besides I hate hockey and I don't want to learn French, plus it's too cold.
