There is no TV from Apple, that's pre-vaporware. Apple TV is a shipping product, and a relatively successful one. It really is pretty cool, we like ours, we rent movies on that more than from the cable tv company mainly because the interface is so much cooler to use.

I like my TiVo, and it's not vaporware. The only thing it doesn't do is streaming stuff from iTunes, but I don't do much of that anyway.

Tivo has a great interface too.

Hockey and cycling are both pretty stupid. Hockey is far dumber.

Hockey fights are much, much better. Hockey is more fun to watch and play. Hockey players are stronger. I would rather have the Stanley Cup than a yellow jersey.

Why do I ride bikes again?

Heh. I got a link to this on an email list from someone named Fred. (actual first name)

headed out to pwn some strava segments
Heh. This weekend past, just as I was heading out on my ride, I got an email from Stava that one of my KOMs had been beaten.

Guess which route I took?

Poor bastard had it for an hour before I took 5 min out of him. I'm a Strava bully.

Rouku links with Amazon Prime and Apple TV does not.

If you're going to be a bully, this is the kind to be.

This is why I use Strava.

Go ahead, judge the Retro-Grouch at the top of the charts :p

Isn't the Stanley Cup the only major sports trophy that some drunken idiot pro athletes managed to lose once?

Anybody who wants one of those vs. a Mellow Johnny is really a mental case.

do you run a compact just for the weight savings?

I actually bought my Lightning cranks used, and I didn't realize it was a compact until it arrived. I was bummed when I figured it out, but I've actually adapted, and with a 11-23, it's actually perfect for pretty much anything. I ended up converting all my bikes to compact after that.

Sram does appear to have gotten this stuff right. My local pal Sandy who reps them is raving about it, and he never steers you wrong on bike crap (unlike the axe grinding fan boys like Solo here). Interested in test riding this stuff one of these days. Oh, by the way, when I mentioned the problems with the old Red FD and asked Sandy if the new improved FD addressed them, his response was 'yes, finally thank God'. So I believe Solo this time.

But let's face it, it's no Di2.

Actually, it would be fascinating to see what Sram would do with electronic shifting. They have said they don't have it in the works, but that's pretty hard to believe.

Memo to Solo: weight doesn't matter that much. God help us with this guy. Let's hope he doesn't hurt himself with those stupid guns.

Yeah, I didn't think the old Red was that bad. I guess I just learned to adapt to it, and I timed my shifts just right, and never under power. This new Red is great. I forget about it now. It just works perfect all the time. I literally tried for hours to drop the chain yesterday. It would not happen.

RT 05-24-12 10:56 AM

It's all about weight until it is no longer about weight.

Translation: Justification for - Newer. Shinier. More gadgety.

Aside from the drone of Di2 in this forum, what are the pros saying who actually use this technology to its full potential?

The weight sucks, but the improvement in functionality is worth it. At least it isn't Di2 heavy.

Speaking of Di2. I was watching the Giro the other day, and a pro using Di2 dropped his chain in the middle of the race. So apparently electric isn't perfect.

Note to self, a good business idea: make something really sucky, and then fixed it and make it heavier and charge an arm and leg for the new thing...

But I fell for it, and plunked down $130 for the new YAW FD, and the happier for it.

patentcad 05-24-12 11:59 AM

I have never dropped my chain using Di2, on either bicycle.

You will be happy you did. I thought about ordering another for the Trek, but the Force FD on it works pretty good.

LowCel 05-24-12 12:39 PM

Anyone else ever feel dumber after reading some posts around here? Some advice given makes me want to bang my head into a rough brick wall.

I just installed it earlier this week, much quieter and shifts much better. The alignment lines didn't do much for me, but I do like the chain spotter. Thinking about getting another one but not sure about the how to justify the $120 (even with the Giro 21% off at Competitive Cyclist).

I think I'm racing Saturday AM with the 45+ kids in Newark. I will endeavor to help gsteinb. Plus I get to race with my pal Chris K. That RULES.
