They're still trying Apple TV? I thought that project died. Haven't been paying close attention, however.

32.5 miles on the fixed gear Free Spirit so far today. Thought I was gonna roll a metric but meh, I'm enjoying beers and am ready for dinner.

Apple TV has sold surprisingly well. We have two units here, the interface is SO far superior to our cable DVR it's a bit of a joke. We like it and use it quite a bit.

My Garmin 705 has been rock solid, as has been the 500 I bought for my wife.

I have a source inside Garmin. He says that the customer service issues and "use the customer as the firmware beta tester" from the past couple of years have gotten senior management attention and things are changing internally to bring them back to where they were when the company was primarily avionics.

A very long standing crash bug on a nuvi 765 (an end-of-lifed product) was recently fixed, and that gives me some hope.

Two two part questions:

1) Which Charge saddle is that? Do you like it? I was checking them out at Ribble, but they were always out of stock.

2) Is that an ashtray on your handlebars? How do you keep your cigarettes lit with drop bars? I found aerobars to be the best for smoking while riding, didn't even have to let go of the bars to take a drag. With drops, the wind would always put out the butt. Cursed fire proof smokes.

Actually I miss knowing how fast I am going. I'm getting pretty good at guessing though. I can usually guess withing 1mph, and I've been guessing distances withing 2miles lately. I rode 70 miles today, and I didn't have a computer. I really like to use them for my repeated routes I time myself on. I need to get something soon. Strava though I'm good on that.

Kudos on the individuality. Strava, however, is good to me only for the segments. Nothing feels better than a KOM over kids half my age. Kids who use Facebook. I do not.

What is the official Pcad stand on Strava?

This is how it would happen for me. I would get Strava, and go on a Strava segment treasure hunt, setting all the KOM in the area, and then they would stand for years. I don't want to sound cocky, but I am faster than most people around here, and I am a pretty accomplished climber. Everyone who is faster, could give a flying fark about Strava. So I find setting Strava records pointless for the fast people would never participate anyway. PCAD thinks Strava is fredly, and lame. I agree, for the reasons I've stated.

My 205 developed the common shut off in the middle of the ride due to a bad solder joint problem. I didn't know this was a problem, until after it pissed me off shutting off one day, and I launched it into a road sign scattering it into a good number of pieces. My Edge 500 I was riding a long on the road this February, and glanced down, and noticed a huge crack in the LCD. I never even remember hitting a big bump or anything. It was 3mo out of warranty, and Garmin wanted nothing to do with helping me out. I sent them an email, and they ignored all I wrote, and told me send it back, and give them $90 and they would give me a refurb unit. After I had already spent $500 on two computers, and had nothing to show for it. They wouldn't even send me a screen so I could replace it myself, which would of been much less than $90. I've opened the unit up, and it's literally like a 2min job to change the LCD. Eff those crooks, they will never see another dime from me.

Charge Spoon. Tied for first place for my butt, along with the SDG BelAir.
I got mine here:

Hahaha, I wish I had a bike ashtray! It's a cupholder. Great idea but prone to ejection. I have a water bottle that fits it. Not as ejection prone as a Starbucks cup but still has ejected on me a couple of times. Now I put a hand on it when I know I have to hit a big bump. Was riding with a Camelback today so no need for bottle. Handlebar mounted water is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Surprised more recreational riders don't get 'em. I gotta get me some Minoura actual water bottle holders for up front sometime.

LesterOfPuppets 05-23-12 08:50 PM

Not just a road, Interstate 205. Actually it's a MUP that runs between NB and SB lanes. Pretty narrow so when I stopped to admire the scenery I hung my bike up on the rail in case any bike traffic came by I'd only have to move myself outta the way and not worry about bike.

Velo Vol 05-23-12 09:11 PM

wut

A MUP that goes between interstate lanes?

I've got to say. SRAM has it right with this new 2012 Red FD. That thing shifts like butter. I tried today on several occasions to get it to drop the chain climbing under power. It would not drop. It is like Di2 reliable, and precise now, but only lighter, and a fraction of the price. It comes with the best engineered chain watcher ever, but I feel it may be a waste because the Yaw, and the length of the cage make chain drops impossible. I might also add, I installed it myself, without reading the instructions, that said "Important Must Read Instructions Before Installing" on them.

My chain catcher came into the shop yesterday. No need for a new front derailleur now. :D

You have mistaken my meaning. This is not about the EU, it is about personal austerity. Talk to anyone who has lost their job or their home in the last decade. You need to cut back to save your own life. At the rate this generation is going, they will spend themselves into a deeper hole than we have, and all based on their need for the newest and shiniest.

Personal fiscal discipline is a thing of the past.

truth

also, I have friends with apple t.v. and they love it, and they aren't fanboys of apple either. I'm actually calling my cable company and may be dropping them...I feel I'm paying way too much for something I use way too little. I'm just going to teach the old lady how to stream to the t.v. via the webs and we'll be set.

Sram does appear to have gotten this stuff right. My local pal Sandy who reps them is raving about it, and he never steers you wrong on bike crap (unlike the axe grinding fan boys like Solo here). Interested in test riding this stuff one of these days. Oh, by the way, when I mentioned the problems with the old Red FD and asked Sandy if the new improved FD addressed them, his response was 'yes, finally thank God'. So I believe Solo this time.

But let's face it, it's no Di2.

Actually, it would be fascinating to see what Sram would do with electronic shifting. They have said they don't have it in the works, but that's pretty hard to believe.

Memo to Solo: weight doesn't matter that much. God help us with this guy. Let's hope he doesn't hurt himself with those stupid guns.

v70cat 05-24-12 07:24 AM

My guess is that Di2 9000 will weigh less so it will be the clear winner.
